  Try calling a local feed supply and see if there are any posts for goats to "Rent"

The goat idea is the best yet for sure.  I guess it depends on your acreage.  My old employer, a hunting club now just raises goats.

Went to Home Depot and ended up with an Echo GT-225.  Seems very well made and more than tough enough to get the job done.

In addition to the Echo, (which I love for the back yard), I got one of these and it works pretty well for keeping the front yard in check:

Be careful with those...A few years (10+ back) we used something similar.  Neighbors called the fire department who said no no no!

My neighbor across the street came over to play with it.  But yeah it does make a lot of smoke, and I'm careful to wet things down afterwards.

It worked on my driveway weeds...for a while.

When I worked for Lowes, I could move a ton of Ryobi's.  Ithought they were well made units back then.  DOn't know now as I have lived in apartments for well over a decade now.

I vote for the goats also. They make great pets also. If not go for the Echo.

Ok I have sold many Weed Wackers. in my time with John Deere. If your after gas. This is what I told my customers. First they will all do the job. They cut weeds. If that is all you want to cut a small bent shaft trimmer is fine. If you have heavy use a straight shaft is good but there are two different types of shafts. One is a thick heavy cable ( like a speedometer cable). That is fine up to heavy weeds. But if you want to add a blade you need a solid steel shaft. Next is the hard part. How much to spend. I told my customers. It all depends on how long you want to be in the field cutting. A 22cc will take a lot longer than a 30 cc. And then there is a 40 cc. If you have an acre to clear I would not go under 30 cc.  The bigger the engine the more they cost. There are many good brands. Echo, Shindaiwa, Husky, Stihl, They are all good. They all last if you take good care of them. I had customers that ran our John Deere Echo's for 8 hrs a day for a month for a several years before they needed repairs. or wore them out. I hope this helped some what. 

when I did landscaping and maintenance and supervised inmates ..always used Husky or Stihls..I like Husky..

also, a good polaski is a great tool for getting out large clumping grass.

Echo PAS-265, been trouble free taking care of 3+ acres for more than 5 years. Can't spray because of seasonal creeks and hundreds of ground frogs.

P.S. - love the torch trick but would not be too practical where I live. Works great for lighting my burn piles though.
