I'll be launching every day of the first week of July from NBSB and/or Capitola.   Dropping kids at camp around 8:30 and on the water shortly thereafter.

For safety and companionship, company is always welcome!

Is there a boat launch or are you guys just huffing it over the beach,I've got a pa14 so huffing it fir me is gonna be hard, plus never surf launch but I'm dieing to get out and fish with some of you guys
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Vince, I believe I have heard of others launching from the floating dock at the end of the pier by the boat launch crane.

I've been wanting to get out for my first ocean outing as well.  I might be joining you guys on July 4th.  Anyone mind if I follow them around out there?  I don't have a fish finder and I really don't know the area all that well.

Another question...do you guys unload at the start of the pier and then go park?  I believe the 12 hour parking spots are up the hill a bit, just wondering what most of you guys do.  I'm just concerned about leaving my yak and gear there while I park.
If you ain't first, you're last.

having just done this this morning here's what I did.  At the start of the pier there are a few metered spots (unlikely that you'll get one) and 3-4 yellow zone spots.  I parked there, dumped off the yak and parked up in the neighborhood above.  The walk back took less than 4 minutes.  The sand is just 30 feet from the yellow zone parking spots so even if you don't have wheels you should be able to do it.  As for the procedure for driving to the end of the wharf and going down their ramp I haven't done that yet so I don't know the logistics.  Caught my fist ling in the kelp beds south of the wharf on a swim bait, no fishfinder, no specialized gear (yet>>>>)

Agreed with barndoor -- the carry down from the base of the wharf to the H2O is pretty simple at Capitola.  Stairs and more complexity at NBSB.   I'll post here the night before each day before I go... but if anyone wants to do a day at the SCruz harbor launch pad, I'd be happy to do one of the days from there!

Anything to prove to Mooch that there are fish in Santa Cruz!

I'm new to kayak fishing, so I probably won't be much help in finding fish... In any case, I always launch from New Brighton, so let me know when and where you plan to launch from.  I'm sure I'll be there at least one of those days.

I always pull down to the loading zone in capitola then unload. And then go park up on the hill. It's an easy beach launch, i have a sit in kayak.

Capitola tomorrow -- 6:00-ish launch time.    Just north of the pier or (for those of you who eschew the ankle-lapping waves) launch from the pier itself.   Channel 6-niner.

Planning on heading out to the mile reef and letting the wind push me home by 1:00-ish.

Anybody targeting butts on the 4th?  I'm looking for help bringing in shorts for a halibut maturity study.  I've got a scientific collecting permit to do so...but need to be present (and for someone to be interested in taking me with them).   :smt003

I'm off on the 6th and tempted to come out for my first ocean trip. Took my yak out for the first time this past sunday in a small local lake, think i did pretty well. Can I wear shorts in Capitola?
