Anyone have any experience with any of the following boats? I have a buddy that is booking a trip for us in Sept. and I figured you all may have some input.

Point Loma
Grande or El Capitan

H&M
First String
Sea Adventure 80

I've heard good things about the Grande. Head over to bloodydecks (they have a HUGE SD long range fishing community on there) and do a search for what you listed below..you can usually find reports & good reviews.

I have not fished those boats, but I fished out of both landings on and off for 40 years. Loved them both till last year. Had a bad experience with H & M. Deckhands and captain on the Malahini were total dicks on a trip to the islands. To be fair, everybody has a bad day. To be honest, I only go to Point Loma Sportfishing now.  :smt012

So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

I have fished at most of the landings in So-Cal at one point or another.
Most of the boats are independents who lease through the landings.
It would be a shame to exclude a whole landing based on the actions of one boat. It would be like labeling NCKA because of the actions on one individual. There are a lot of great boats in the area, do your research and chose based on the reputation of the boat ... not the landing.
FWIW,
I have had great success with all the boats listed, but got along best with the crew of the Grande

Have fun,

The islander supports kayak fishing with there mother ship trips. Some of the boats down there don't care for the kayak anglers. And I've always heard good things about the chubasco. If you want the scoop on what's going on down there, while your in town go to squidco, they're pretty good with the intel and have a great selection of gear for your trip.

thx...not going to be a yak trip. My buddy has time off and is going to spend part of the week in vegas then head to SD where I will fly down and meet him. So we're pretty set on the days.

keep info/opinions coming

Just a reminder that what may have been a good boat at one time can change, sometimes quickly, as skippers and deckhands do move between boats...sometimes of their accord, sometimes not.

Which ever landing you choose call ahead to see what kind of documents you're going to need if you head into mexican waters.  Mex has new a new visa system and it seems like it may be a "work in progress" kind of deal with some inconsistencies.
