Hi everyone,
Im looking for plans on how to make a Hobie Outback Plugin Cart? Just brought home an 08 Outback but needed a 2nd person to help me with it. It's something I'll be taking solo so would be nice to have the cart, but I notice they cost a fortune. Thanks.

You're coming to the realization that - like all hobbies -  kayak fishing is expensive.  Between the yak, pimping, proper attire, cart, and fishing gear, it ain't cheap.  Well worth it though!!!

Dude, the carts that plug into scupper holes have been known to cause cracks.  Pretty much everyone agrees it's not smart to use em.

bite the bullet and get a Wheel-Eze with the sand wheels.  Check out previous posts on this forum........

If your looking for an inexpensive cart I picked up an  attwood cart similar to the wheelez without the save tires at bass pro for 70 and it has worked great for my tarpon

YEp Wheeleez is best way to go.  Checkout what most guys were using during the ARW tourney.

Congrats on the outback Steph. That's the yak I want to move up to. Can I ask where you got it? $?

I use my wheels almost everywhere I go.  I'd look first at the wheeeleez. Everyone has them. Though I've never had a problem with skinny tires.

Guaranteed that if you stay in the sport long enough, you'll end up purchasing Wheeleze.  Most that try to go the route of saving money and buying something else usually end up with Wheeleze in the end.

It also depends on where you plan to fish the majority of the time; sand vs hard surface. I have a set of wheeleez but use the heavy duty cart more often (with pool noodles for added cushion). They're easily bungy-ed to the rear of the yak.

I found it on craigslist yesterday, its the 08 Version, got it for 1200, guy wanted 1300 but i was able to talk him down a little. All he said was "are you going to take good care of her"? I said you bet I will! Been looking for a hobie for a while now, has some scratches but im gonna try and find a safe way to fix that later on.

btw the wheeliez look real nice, dont think i can afford it though. gonna try and scrounge up some old power wheels tires and pvc piping to make my own, see what happens! i hear that using the scupper holes to hold the car can be a bad idea, so im just gonna make a cart it sits on. will see what happens.

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Lol I know right. I just got into hunting too, another expensive hobby. I'm slowly starting to see how pricey this sport is becoming. Good thing is I bought the Kayak I've always wanted now I can slowly get everything else, after that its smooth sailing!

IMO - Spend the money on a well built (and proven) cart and save your kayak from damage....it's worth it.

Like Hai, I have wheelez and the heavy duty scupper cart but use the scupper cart more often. The reason is that the AI is really heavy and hard to get on off the wheelez. The scupper cart you can plug in and take off in shallow water.  Hobies are built to use with a scupper cart and for short distances on smooth surfaces it should be ok.
