I like the Port for closeness and at the moment for catching bluegills with bycatch of bass and stripers.  The launch area is a bit grimey as the water temps are up to 80 degrees, but there are generally no powerboats, the water is cleaner out in the main port area, and for kids, there is cool freightliners (occassionally), tugboats, and all the piers and backways to explore.  There are even the backwaters where you can find airplane parts, boat parts, dock parts, and weird stuff.  Shoreline with red worms or medium minnows under a bobber will catch a wide variety of fish.  It does get choppy out in the main lake area when the wind is blowing, but you can always hide behind the docks/boats or head the opposite way and fish along the wall and gate.
