As I'm sitting here trying to decide which FF/GPS etc. to install on my AI/Adventure, I'm going through my older inventory of equipment from days gone by. Lots of water over the dam since then  :smt044

And maybe I could put these old war horses to use again on my yak...

Si-Tex FD-2 digital FF. This was my unit of choice through the mid-80s-early 90s. It cost me a relative fortune back then and the display is still as good or better than most of what's out there now. The picture was/is first rate. I could SEE whether the weeds were coon tail or cabbage. The thermocline was obvious. I could watch my little walleye jig dance off the bottom. On the reef slopes, I could tell when the bottom went from sand/rock to the clay strip/to the mud. Instant flasher bar to scrolling picture display. Memory scroll. White line. Save pictures. Zoom. Speed control etc. A vivid display with first rate resolution. The backlit blue light looked really cool at night.

Vexilar FL-8 color flasher. This is the ice-fishing unit of choice. Still a beauty. Target color based on density of signal return. Works very well. Rock solid.

The original Lowrance "Little Green Box" portable flasher w/suction cup transducer mount. A little noisy. A little clunky. 0-60 feet or 0-120 foot range. With practice this unit will tell you most everything about the bottom you are moving over. She's an oldie but goodie. What she wants to tell you is there. You just need to figure it out. Great to bring along when traveling.

Got any old units with stories to tell?
