At the wall by 7am, met up with Daviator, and a non-NCKA guy in a Malibu 2;  and Tim (Krusty)  arrived shortly after we hit the water.

Sent a ocean agent down to look for some butts around the flag pole during the incoming, for nada; not even a scratch...

Drifted the rockwall with agents and swimbaits at the top of the tide...still no takers.

Saw some birds off in the distance, so went to go check it out; turned out to be a sealion flipped a large fish on the surface. On the way there hooked up on a flattie, but wrong kind; got batman by the wing, so I let him go.... but it got my blood pumping....

Drifted another agent back to the launch, but went home empty handed. Off the water by 1pm; now for a shower and off to a Grad party! (where I will test out my dive gear in there pool! hehehe).

2 guys manage to find some ass; Ty hooked up on one, but I'll let him tell his story and the non-NCKA dude also picked one up along the rockwall on live shiners.

Good day on the water, slight breezy in the morning, but water was still flat, no sheep; wind picked up quick around noon, with white caps pushing us back to the launch.

Can't wait for next week!!!!!

Two fish for three yakkers, pretty solid imo. Might just try a dry run of my own.

After making a stop at Mike's to pickup a half dozen volunteers, I met up with Ty at the rock wall bout 8:00a.  As we're unloading and setting up gear another yakker with a ncka bumper sticker pulls up and begins setting up too. Found out his name is Nate aka bongle(sic) Anyway he says that he's got one hali from the wall this year however, has not been involved with ncka for a while!
As Ty and I launch we see some other yak fisherman by the flagpole and decide we'll just concentrate trolling near the flag instead of paddling down wall against incoming; then drifting back up. Approaching ballena flag pole we find that the other yakkers are daviator, g-whiz, and krusty.
We troll along that area for a few hour with nothing till the current push slows then, Dave and company decide to venture down the wall for more action. Ty and I stay in the area planning to head back to the ramp about 20 min after the slack tide. I was just looking back at Ty telling him that I'm trolling my setup all the way back to ramp when I see his rod go BENDO...fish on...keeper hali. All I got was a scratched shiner but another fun morning otw with buds.

BTW we see a couple of gulls fighting over something too big for them to fly away with or to shallow fast. I paddle over quick and net what I first think is a bullhead. Turns out its some medium sized sculpin type fish that none of us could identify. Anyone know what this is? Sorry for the somewhat blurry iphone pics. Included is another shot of Ty with netted hali.

sorry for late write up..
not much to report.. met up with Gwhiz at 7 on the ramp..

I wanted to troll with my Kone ZOne flasher that  Ipurchased for last years ARW tourney but couldnt make at last minute..
figured this would allow me to scope out the area..

worked flag pole area for a long time w/o a hit.
painted a decent amount of bait I thought...but nada..

later on even tried the Hammer swim bait off a 1.5 oz jighead...nope..

ARW is truly a love/hate place for me.. The view of the City is great..
the lack of bite plus lice potential ashore I hate...

the seagulls diving on the sea lion kill I surmised was a sturgeon being taken out by the sea lion as the fxxker was rolling/ thrashing a good 20 minutes.. he took off as we got close.

that other butt that came out was from a non NCKA yakker... At the risk of sounding like a sore loser...this guy just recently bought his MalibuII tandem, (seating in rear as opposed to middle so he looked off balanced)
carried no VHF,  and was a first timer there....and  he scores a butt....
No justice....!!!!!

Hoping many more butt arrive before sunday..

that weird thing Dablazer scooped up looked like the missing link.. kind of bullhead/ eel looking..you biologist pipe up cuz I am curious...the 2nd pic reveals an abnormal dot pattern..

not many pics from me worth posting.. its on my iPhone and real pain to transport over..

can anyone advise on the TapTalk app... will it make transferring pics easier?
worth getting?

thanks,
dave

Nice sized plainfin midshipman (Porichthys notatus). They are a cool fish that have photo phores which are the light producing cells under their body.
