After getting some tips from Rockhpper I finally made an extension mount for the Hero2.
It extends from 30'' to 60'' with the push of a button with 5 stop lengths between.
The glued rope wrapped around the handle allows me to wedge it into 3 different diameter rod holders so it will not wobble or twist.
The camera head unscrews for easy and safe storage (and floats). The pool noodle around the rest of the unit, secured with velcro straps, floats the entire unit too.
I made the removeable head mount by cutting off the metal end of a paint roller so only the handle was left.
A roll bar mount and some contact cement to secure the pool noodle and it was good to go.
Can't wait to put it to some good use.

Nice!

If we both get a couple of hundred hours of video we can make our own movie.   :smt001

You never let me down. The Tote-Hopper mount is legit! I might have to try and make my own. Very nice fellas.

Nice work guys :smt004
I need to rework my mount for my Pentax Optio,
I have it mounted next to my FF on my Revo (mast tube) but it is too close,
and the only thing you see on video is my ugly mug from the waist up :smt012
That extendable pole may be the ticket :smt002
Where did you get them?
Thanks,
Tad

Wow!  I could have used that last week to take video of some cutthroat that were hanging close to the shore.
Thanks for the how to Tote!

Are you related to Thomas Edison? Nice rig. Looking forward to seeing some of your underwater videos.

Good stuff. FYI, they sell a GoPro tripod mount that accepts a standard 1/4-20 thread. I have 1/4-20 studs mounted in numerous things that act as mounting points. I built a little skate dolly for the music video I just did with my son  :smt003 For the kayak I just wear it on my head. No one wants to see my ugly mug.
And you could hear me screaming a mile away as I was headed out for the door....

How do you like the Pentax?  I recently got the GF a GoPro for X mas, but have been looking for something for myself, not sure the go pro meets my needs.

It's Ok, no problems with it yet.
I like that it's small/credit card size 1/2in. thick :smt001
I don't like that it does not zoom or have wide angle in video mode :smt012
hope that helps :smt002

My Pentax optio W30 zooms while shooting video. Do you have an older version?
My only complaint with my Optio W30 is it's slow shutter release.  It's not the fastest on the planet.  This may be from the auto focus, but it seems very slow to actually shoot the picture when pressed to do so.
