I am not sure where you live, but you can call the VA and get info on home loans.  Some of the reasons home owners don't like VA loans is the home inspection, if the place needs a roof for example the VA wants the roof repaired at the owners expense.  They don't want the Vet to buy a lemon house and get stuck with repairs, which could, in theory lead to a foreclosure down the road.  You may wish to talk to a local DAV, VFW, American Legion rep as a lot of these org's have people who are trained (often times better than some VA reps) on VA benefits.

So, has anyone actually gone with a loan from CalVet?  I'm about to try and get pre-approved, I just want to make sure I explore all options.  I'm already starting to get that nervous/overwhelmed feeling.  I hate spending money. :smt003

Shellback, I have not started anything yet but with a bit of research calvet seems to be the best option. Good luck to you Bro

Why does CalVet seem like the best option to you? I can't see the difference between the two. They are both pretty confusing, that's all I know so far.

Jeff, I don't see how anyone can say how Cal-Vet is better than a regular VA loan, or vice versa. I seriously doubt that once anyone gets a home through either one of these programs will want to buy another home in the future via this route.
