Damn dude that is gnarly. Glad you're on the mend. Just goes to show that you can't ever, ever, ever, ever turn your back on the ocean. As soon as you get complacent bad things can and probably will happen. Thanks for sharing this story so others can learn from it.   :smt006

Oh man, that must have HURT!!!!

The initial break wasn't as bad as you'd imagine, partly because I went into somewhat of a survival mode as soon as it happened. The worst pain was after the first surgery when the anesthesia started wearing off (epidural). They tried to get ahead of it with Percocet but that may as well have been baby aspirin. A Dilaudid fix did the trick, though. Thank you, modern medicine.

They had to go in again a few weeks later to pin up a piece of bone that didn't stay put. When you go in for a follow-up a couple weeks after surgery it's generally not a good sign when the surgeon looks at the x-ray and says something to the effect of "oh sh*t..." Another wood screw or two took care of it. 2nd procedure was much quicker and I went home the same night - back to my own apartment . . . up 3 flights of stairs. I got up there fine--that's what crutches are for--but then I was stuck for a while. Like a Roach Motel, once ya check in . . .

don't y'all worry about AVA, he and I went out sturgeon fishing in my tin can and he is just as crappy a fisherman as ever, so I'm sure he'll heal up just fine to do whatever random crap it is that he normally does.

So sorry to hear of the misfortune, Pisciform.  I hope you're considering hanging with us at Shelter Cove.  Would love to have your vibe at the event.   :smt001

Either way, get back OTW when you can, Bro, and be well!   :smt008

Wow, I am sure everyone appreciates the lesson learned; unfortunately through your mishap. That sounded like something out of a slow motion...oh sh*t...is this happening to me experience. Heal fast and hope you are fishing soon!
