I had never heard of this until today... Information on the net seems to be saying different things.  I see the application form lists kayaks and other non-cf vehicles, but the information on where to affix stickers and bands specifically state "DMV registered vehicles"  If you are going to lake pillsbury, where in the hell are you supposed to get this done??

Got to thinking... maybe this doesn't apply to non-trailered watercraft?

They stopped requiring kayaks to have a sticker a couple years ago. I think 2009 was the last year.

Salty... thanks a ton for the reply... I was hoping that was the case, otherwise, I owe Lake County $1000! There is some old info on the net if you search for the applications.  I just found this a minute ago

Thanks again!

Recently went to Steven's Creek reservoir on the opening day.  :smt001 First time there.  Had to get the yaks checked for muscles.  They had a check station/tent/office in the parking lot.  Drove up and they checked the yaks.  They put green bands(paper like wrist bands) to the yaks.  Not sure about Lake County Quagga.  Probably similar to Lake Quagga.

Make sure your kayaks are completely dry inside and have no sand or baby muscles on them.  (Baby muscles feel like sand.)  If they find that stuff, you may get a notice about not getting to be on water for a period of time.  :smt011 (Forgot the word.)

Good Luck!

I been going through this inspection for several years now at my local lakes; Quarry and Chabot.  Its pretty easy and painless.
Pay the a $3 fee good for a month of same date.  Fill out a 1 page form.  Park Ranger will feel the inside hull of kayak and it must be dry.  If its raining and water got in while in transit its a judgement call by the Ranger.  Kayaks don't need a CF number unless you put a motor to it, then it becomes a motorized vehicle.  I have used the same inspection form on my 2 kayaks without a problem.  Sometimes they ask to see your PFD.  Then go fishing.

FishingAddict... I hear what you are saying, but my confusion stemmed from the fact that pillsbury is 45 mins up a dirt road in the middle of hells no where.  No Ranger is standing around waiting to inspect your Yak.  It turns out Yaks are exempt... but if they weren't you would have to drive another hour back down to civilization, find a place to do the inspection, and then return to be legal... ridiculous.  I feel sorry for any power boaters who have had that experience.
