I'm trying to plan a family trip for Memorial Day weekend (Sat & Sun).  Can't really think of anywhere to go...my sis suggested Pismo Beach, but been there, done that too many times, so no more Pismo Beach.  I realized I haven't explored much of the coast past Bodega Bay, but I hear there is lots of nice scenery towards that way.  Although this trip is not going to be fishing oriented, I figure I'll try to land myself somewhere where I can have the option to get some fishing time in.  :smt003

I will have my mom, sister, cousin & his wife and my nephews on this trip.  Don't have any tents, so will need to lodge at motel/hotel.  Basically, I'm looking for any suggestions past Bodega Bay that is near the coast which will have something to entertain us for 2 days.  My mom, sister, and cousin's wife aren't big fans of fishing, so I will need some other things nearby that will keep them busy while the guys go and fish for few hours, so that is something to consider.  Someone I spoke with a while back suggested going to Fort Bragg, so that is one possible destination, just looking for any others based on your past experiences.  I think Fort Bragg is about as far north we are considering going btw.

Any suggestion/tips are appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

With all the parameters you set out, I think Ft Bragg is your best if not only choice (to meet everyone's needs), then you have the whole area within a few miles.  Scenery is spectacular up or down the coast, then there's the town of Mendocino, the Skunk Train if it's still running, and diving/fishing/beaching opportunities are plentiful.

My brothers inlaws have a vacation rental house there... great area
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I'll be camping at Pomo campground that weekend you are welcome to come chill by the campfire or hang out if you want. I'm from that area so I'm familiar with all the activities an ill tell you there are too many to list.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

James, if I'm up there, I will definitely drop by and chill.

So as far as fishing, non boat/kayak...I'm guessing its just surf fishing from the beach?  Or is there any good river/lake fishing nearby?

Also, I'm looking into lodging right now, but we have a dog that we're bringing along.  So far, I found 1 place that allows pets, but they're requiring a 2 night stay that weekend.  Anyone have experience with any motel/inn/hotels in the Fort Bragg area that allows pets?

a little late for reservations. Fort Ross, Albion, Russian Gulch are nice. fort bragg is a lot less expensive than Mendocino. If you can still find a campground slot, try these folks for a trailer rental

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.
