Finally got it done more or less...downrigger in place and a massive haka tramp. Will probably slice the tramp in half...

The tramp/haka is a fiberglass flooring...its a little too heavy at 30" wide. I find i end up netting or gaffing anything substantial from the tramps...so want some platform way out there.

Ive dropped lead for salmon from the yak for 10 years now...it was time for a change. The ai just begs for these kind of mods

Damn that's sweet. Can you buy the outriggers separately, or do you have to buy the sail as well?

you can buy the outrigger separately aka crossbar, front and rear aka assembly and an ama is what you need.

Nice going, Steve. Downrigger on an AI sounds promising and I'll let ChuckE comment about his field test on his version.

Whichever material you use, a pair of haka bench (on top of tramps) makes a big diferrence when sailing or fishing. I like the fiberglass material which I ended up using myself. They are corrosion and weather resistant ant flexes a little bit. The only disadvantage- it doesn't float like wood

Can you post up your hakas? I would love to know the materials you used

Here you go, Steve. How do you secure/mount yours on the aka?

Sweet. Tomorrow if it stops raining, I will take some pics.
The front, where the aluminum rails are, there is a piece of 1.5" PVC that has a slice taken out of it, and is bolted to the rail. That snaps onto the aka, then a bungle ball snugger thing holds it down. The rear is only bunging ball snugger things. On the rear I may replace with the same fastex clips that the tramps have- I have a bunch of them and they thread through the flooring grid easily.

I like the idea of having a rigid platform rather than a tramp... better mobility. Have you weighed yours? It can be an issue. My bench weighs about 13 lb each. With both hakas mounted (on top of all my rigging) it's a pain transporting the AI from the parking lot to the ramp and back.

oh yeah that thing weighs a frickin ton. I will probably chop it down to 15" wide-rather than 30. Right now the entire traka weighs about 20!
I always end up carrying junk down to the launch in stages anyway, but 20# is too heavy for every day use.

My haka is only 8.5" wide but it's wide enough for me. Very comfortable sailing 10-15 kt wind. I sit on it to counterbalance the AI; mount my fishfinder, rodholders, etc. I also strap my paddle underneath.

Post new pics after you chop it down. I also like to see when you field test it.

Hey Steve, any news on your haka? I'm really interested in seeing the finished product.
