I've yet to fish Folsom but am getting into Bass fishing so figure that is one of the better places around Sac.  Just wondering though, is there any free parking/launch areas.  I would be coming up the Highway 50 side and closer to Sac the better as I am looking for a quickie spot when I have a couple of hours to burn.  Even rough launching is fine as I have wheels and don't need a concrete launch pad.  Thanks for any info.

The State Park has it locked up tight... but ya never know... I will be watching just in case!
If you have the State Park Pass it is sorta free?  right now they have most of their secondary access points closed so you should call to verify which spots are open.

Thanks Marty,

I guess maybe I need to go up there and scout around a bit, maybe find some sort of access road or something.  I have the American River Parkway Pass so I can get to a lot of places on the American as well as the Delta and some local lakes with it so it makes it tough to drop the money up there.  Maybe someone will chime in later from who's in the know.

Depends on how far you want to hike?

Sardine has a point. Perhaps you can hook your boat up to the back of a bike and pedal in... that is quite possible. As far as I know all entry points that are public are State Property and the roads that access it otherwise dead end on private property and are pretty far from the water for a long trespass.  If I am wrong, I would love to hear about it. I prefer Rattlesnake Bar access since there is a nearby 5mph section just a quarter mile or so up river, BUT that is closed at least half the year as are most of the better spots for kayaking. However, you can access those places on foot but they are a mile or so to the water. I see people park outside and walk in. If you had a bicycle set up like many people do for surf boards it would be pretty easy. Myself, I am way too lazy and have an annual State pass and just drop my boat on the edge of the water on the ramp or along the miles of shoreline where vehicles are permitted.

The entry at rattle snake bar isn't that far... Park outside and cart to the right and down to the water...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I agree. I think the distance from the Rattlesnake bar gate to the ramp is about as near as you can get for a paved approach without entering the park with your vehicle ( to the best of MY knowledge). Rattlesnake bar gate will proabably remained closed until June....  for into:

I got out my Folsom Lake SRA map and it is about 6/10ths of a mile from the park boundry to the ramp as the crow flies. So I guess about .7 or .8 on the road?

A good thing about this spot is that there will be so many fewer speed boats up that arm of the lake. There is also a 5mph restricted zone not to far a paddle North.

My knowledge of the easter leg is very limited.

Don't need to go to the ramp... dirt road to the right after .2 mile (ish) takes you right to the water and some trees in the water and great structure...

Yeah, I think you are right and the water is pretty high right now making it even closer.
