Hello Everyone,

For those of you who don't know, I have lived with Type 1 Diabetes for 20+ years. Type 1 diabetes only makes up 10% of the diabetic population. As a child I attended the Diabetic Youth Foundations summer camps and learned that Diabetes was not going to stop me from living my life. At this camp I fell in love with the outdoors. This is where I first went camping, first slept under the stars, and went on my first 5 day backpacking trip.

Without the Diabetic Youth Foundation I don't think I would be finding myself on a kayak. They have given me the courage to live life to its fullest. To this day I am always volunteering for the DYF and last summer I was their camp nurse for their summer day camp. I am planning on doing the same again this summer.

I know times are hard and money is tight, but any amount helps. Even a dollar goes a long way. This site has over 3,000 members, if each one donated a dollar the Diabetic Youth Foundation would be able to help so many children and families living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Please click on the following link to make a donation and help the DYF reach their goal by April 29th and thank you so much!

I was laid off and inbetween jobs, but I still wanted to donate. In November I found out I joined the high blood sugar club.

Not much, but I sent $10 to your account.

After a trip to Iraq, I got the word from my VA Doc on post deployment health screening that I was type II.

Having spent several summers at Boy Scouts Camps back east I can appreciate what these camps can do for a lot of younger people who have littel to no expierence in the outdoors.  We used to have a troop from NYC show about the same time we would.  They were clueless, but by the end of their week, they knew  a lot about the stuff we kids took for granted.  Be glad to help!

Thanks so much Squidder K and Morgan, thanks for paying it forward.

If anybody gets a chance to watch the video they have on the link, you will see what it really means to help the DYF out.

Vwool, what does it take to send a kid to camp?  I think sometimes it is harder for some of us to fathom how much it costs.  I know when I went to scout camp in 1977 I think the cost was $50.00 for the week, but minimum wage back then was $1.90 or $2 an hour.  I had to sll a but load of boxes of candy, christmas wreathes and what ever else they had us sell.  It would not surprise me if it well over a few hundred dollars for a week of camping, not including travel.  Should we make it a goal to sponsor a kid?
