Novice to Halibutt fishing, and would like to learn from someone willing to spend some time with a rookie.  I talked to Danglin and he said throw a post and see who would be interested.  I know salmon season is close by and there is push to head that way, but I am interested in trying to land one of those big flat fish!  I grew up on East Coast Flounder, jigging for them. Now I want to hit these big west coast monsters.  So I am hoping some one would show a novice or two ( I know I am not a alone  in this quest), the technique for hitting someplace in bay.  I live close to Oyster Point, but I would travel most anywhere in the bay region. Date TBD with your schedule.  I will supply lunch, any takers?  Open to other newbs if there is an interest???

Hey Squider! I don't blame you for wanting a Hali,I'm from the east myself and I know that a legal back there is bait here, but the fish won't be here in numbers till the water gets a bit warmer and the baitfish move in, they start down south, so when the reports start coming in from Santa Cruz and points south, then keep an eye on insaneduanes reports from the Alameda Rock Wall Aka ARW, he's the fatty fatty slayer, 17in one season.

I would show you around the mouth of the Richmond Harbor, Ferry Point....

it's always best, if ya can, to get as much time on the water as possible, and finding someone to give ya tips in the oyster point area would be money...

I'd be into checking that out too as Oyster Point is one of the hot spots....

second the Insaneduane hook up...

Squidder, you live close to where the bite starts historically. In the spring the south bay warms up before the north bay and this, along with clearer summertime water turns the bite on. Keep your eye on the water temp at the Alameda weather station (AAMC1). You can start looking when it hits 56°+, but the bite really starts at 58°+.
Ill be scouting ARW very soon and I'm sure there will be multiple "hookup" posts in the next few weeks.

Kevin! Let me know whenever you plan on going. I'm also a noob when it comes to fishing halibut (actually pretty much to all fish really) and would love to learn.

I'll be posting hookups for halibut fishing in SC/Monterey soon as the conditions look good for it.  Keep an eye on the hookups section, i'd be happy to take you out.

Saw a post on another board where a fellow caught a legal flatty from a beach in SF on a swimbait.  It looks like they may be starting to show.

I caught a 36 in hali in between the San Mateo and dumbarton bridge while sampling last month. Also been catching sardines, herring, and anchoveys along with a lot of baby halis.

As much as I would of like to go to Shelter cove, don't think I will be there this year.  Chumchum good for you, how deep was the water?  I have heard stories of Halibutts and stripers in the Foster city Lagoons, as anyone here ever caught them?

I was in 15 FOW its one big mudflat down there especially near the old ship wreck. I heard that about foster city and about redwood shores. Ive seen plenty of bait in the redwood shores lagoon so I would believe theres monster stripers and halis too.
