So I’m planning on making an addition to my fleet by picking up a Hobie.  I currently paddle an OK T-13. This boat is wonderful for surf launching and heavy kelp, but I am looking to acquire a trolling/ long distance boat.  I am interested in either a Revo 13  Angler or a Mirage Adventure Angler.  It is important that I am able to demo these models, or other models of similar dimensions prior to deciding which boat to purchase. Living in the Santa Cruz area, I have found it difficult tracking down these models for either demonstration or purchasing purposes.  According to the website, MBK doesn’t currently have any Hobies for demo or sale at the moment.

Im looking for suggestions on dealers that have these models in stock for demo and/or purchasing purposes. Who do you recommend? I would be willing to travel a fair distance if a demo and sale would be possible in the same day.  Any thoughts?

I demo'd both at Lake Tahoe in the same hour.
Bought the Revo.
A couple of years later I bouth a used Adv.
The Revo's been dry for quite some time but it's still my Ocean yak.

Try Mel Cottons in San Jose, I at least think they have a Revo for demo.  My guess is that if you really want to do some long distance ocean trolling, the Adventure is going to do a better job than the Revo.  But if you mean trolling lakes for trout or whatever and then doing the occasional salmon troll, you would probably be happier with a Revo.

So you prefer the Revo over the Mirage for ocean applications? Is this due to the "tippiness" of a long/narrow boat?

if you want to demo/buy I would call CCK in Oakland or Sunrise Mountain Sports in Livermore.  I think both could arrange the demo/buy.

Tighter turning radius when maneuvering in or near kelp.

Sunrise in Livermore should be able to demo both at Del Valle.

Cck in Oakland is very good about letting you demo they don't charge and their store is 20 yards from the water that's a major plus give them a call they have them all in stock for demo

Did you contact Kayak Connection in Santa Cruz?

Thanks for the recommendation.   I just demoed a 2011 Adventure at Kayak Connection.  It is a super slick ride. I will certainly be purchasing one soon, but I have one question that the dealer was unsure about.  My question is this.  The model I demoed is a 2011 Adventure.  What differences (if any) are there between the 2011 Adventure and the 2012 adventure?  I have also emailed this inquiry to Hobie but though I ask around NCKA as well.  Any thoughts?

I don't think there is much deference in the two more foam in the hull, inserts in the trunk for the Hobie carts and they changed the seat posts to a twist and lock thats about it from what I see. I would think it would come down to the price deferents if its not that much go for the 2012 my two cents. did you try the Revo its more stable and easer to turn but not as fast. I have one of each and love them both :smt007.

Thanks for the input Pat.  I currently paddle a T-13.  This will be my primary surf/kelp/ect. boat while the Adventure will be my trolling machine.  During the demo, I purposefully tipped over a couple times to test its limits.  Im a relatively "compact" and found the adventure plenty stable for me.  I think I agree with you in holding out for the 2012.  Its too bad they have not made a transducer compatible scupper yet.
