Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

I had a standard horizon hx751, lost it, then bought the hx290 and like it the best.

I had the older model of this one and it was tough as nails and took a sh*t load of abuse from me on my dive board, in my float tube etc.

Finally after two years or so it got too salt encrusted from me not taking care of it and died. Think I will still send it back and cash in on the warranty, but for now have asked for this one for my birthday next week.

Fingers crossed!

I like the knob less models, so your settings won't change if it bangs around.

West Marine VHF 155 floating handheld. Good price and the westmarine warranty is a piece of cake had the old 150 thing broke/i didnt treat it the best no questions asked they give my the next model up sense they discontinued the 150. Now that I have the 155 i like it better plus it floats! Only cost $159 some times they have it one sale or if you know some one with port supply you can get a discount.

Really happy with my Standard Horizon HX290.  I'm hard on gear, and this one seems rugged enough.  Works as advertised and holds a charge for a long time.  Bought it last year from Cabela's for ~$100.

For $28 more bucks you can get the Lowrance LHR-80 VHF/GPS. It floats and has a Distress call button you can a free MMSI number (mobile maritime service identity) I like this radio because you can store up to 20 of your buddies MMSI and track them on the radios gps. But having this number links you directly with the Coasties if you need them in a hurry. You can also store up to 500 way points on the chart plotter. Here's a link
