Raising Chickens?

Once they're trained, the chickens will return to their coop on their own, usually well before dark.

 

  I had no idea that chickens are carnivoirs!  I read some where online when I was looking at maybe having some, that they will clear a yard of mice as well bugs.  My buddy up in Oregon built his coop, (From plans) and has 10 chickens running round.  His co-workers don't need to buy eggs anymore.
  Al,  I'm sure you've seen coons in your yard, let me tell you, I've seen some BIG coons patrolling my yard, so just make sure the pen is very secure! 

My parents raised chickens in a big pen behind the store. No problem with raccoons years ago...and no problems with mice either.  Would be nice to have chickens again but Fremont is very strict on how many birds on a given size property. I'm not sure if my backyard would even meet the minimum size requirement.
