Looking to go crabbing at HMB this Sunday. Weather is looking really good so it should be a good trip. Will try to be on the water by 7:30 am! Would love to have some company.

John,

Do you go out of HMB often for crabs? Have you had much success?
Where do you launch from?

Antonio,

I go crabbing out of HMB pretty often. I've done pretty good this year with crabs (at least I think so) but will have a "bad" day once in awhile. I usually launch from the Old Pier which is down some from HMB kayaks.

I'm getting my yak and gear ready.  I hope to be there around 7 or so.

John,

So how was the crabbing yesterday? You definitely picked a great day to go out on the water.

I sent you an email inquiring about your crabbing setup on your kayak. There is a lot of information on the web and it seems like everyone has their custom way of rigging their kayak. I spent a couple of hours last night viewing a bunch of youtube video on the subject. Just wanted to see what the local fishermen were doing before I give it a try.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

John,

Sorry I missed out.  I had National Guard Drill Sat and Sunday. GF and I helped out Danglin at HOW over in San Pablo.  Nice place looking forward to hitting that place for a paddle fish with GF soon.  How did you make out?  I hope it was calmer than the last trip I had with you.

While this may not be the traditonal report-out location, John and I had a very nice trip.  The ocean was exceedingly calm and temperature awesome.  Not very many people on the water which was a bit surprisingly.

Crabbing was slower for sure, especially early on, and we didn't have much of anything showing in our traps or rings until around 10:00 or so.  I had to high-tail it out at noon, and left with a few (Enough for a nice dinner).  John was going for one more soak when I left but seemed to be on track for a limit.

Kevin,

The weather was perfect. Couldn't have asked for better conditions. It was definitely calmer than the last time we were out crabbing.

As far as crabbing, the crabs were non existent early on in the morning but as the day progressed - and as we began moving to new locations - things began to pick up. In the end, I ended up keeping 8 dungies (could've been 9 but had 1 very large crab "slipped" away) and CamoDon with 3.

Hope to see you OTW soon,

John

I forgot to mention this earlier but my brother caught a nice 23.2 inch lingcod on the south jetty using a lure! Both of my brothers had bites all day and made me a little jealous as we can't fish for rockfish or lings!
