It didn't say,  What was it that cause your dads boat to half fill with seawater?    Was a hatch left open?
Thanks

I'm so glad everything went well for you and your dad. Good call to have not waited to long to seek help when you had to. Was he wearing a wet suit when he fell it?

Glad that you guys survived. When you are ready, please share the circumstances that were involved that caused the kayak to fill half way with water. We are all just looking at it in a safety perspective for all. Trust me, I have been there.
I had some anxiety issues after my ordeal, then after a few weeks I snapped out of it, thank god.
Take Care.

Vesper,

After reading your post of what happened to you and your father. I was wondering if you might be interested in taking the classes that I'm currently posting for this coming Sunday. Look under hookups and MBK kayaking classes 4-22 posted yesterday. It looks like at least one other kayaker is interested thus far. If this time dosent work for you it might be something that you may consider in the near future.

Take care and am glad that you and your dad are doing well.

the hatch was not left open or any other hatches.  we practiced self rescued and it filled up again.  was able to get back on this time but was hard to paddle/peddle back to shore. (the kayak was filled with flotation bags/pool noddles this time.)  Sorry, still trying to figure it out.

Jedmo

He was wearing a Neoprene Wetsuit pants and a Neoprene Wetsuit t-shirt.

We bought Hobie side kick ama kits.  We tried them out on the reservoir and the kayaks would not flip at all.  Even when they out of the water.

Holy crap. That must have been thrilling. What were the conditions like?

The conditions were quite good.  Just some swells.  not too big.  The accident was not because of the conditions.  It was because of :

I decided to flip my rudder up when going through the kelp.  When we were out of the kelp,  I tried to flip my rudder back down,  it was stuck under a bungee cord for some reason.  I forgot about the 3 golden rules and so, I took my paddle and tried swatting at the rudder.  But on the way to the rudder,  I flipped.  Dad was helping me get back on when he flipped.

Thank god you guys made it out safely.  Gear is always replaceable.

Not all of our gear.  Dad forgot to upload the videos from our Hawaii vacation which was 1 or 2 weeks ago.  Now it is on the bottom of the sea floor.
