So my buddy wants to celebrate his birthday and camp on the coast. Are there any places that are open now? He has already stayed at Doran and wants to try something different. Any ideas? I noticed that many places are closed due to funding.

Timber cove is small but fun its privately owned and should still be open camp right on the pebble beach. Lawsons Landing is always a great spot and crabbing off the dock can get you some big reds and dungies plus you can launch yaks there and go for sharks and rays in the bay.

Monterey county veterans memorial park/camp/hiking area. Not well known. Ultra cool. Great place to stay :smt003  http://www.seemonterey.com/veterans-park-monterey
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Dont know a number maybe google it? You could probably just show up but not sure how busy it would be.

I believe Salt Point is open year round and is one of my favorite spots in the state. Can always gather mushrooms around there too and grab some mussels on the rocks close to shore.

Thanks for all the help guys! It looks like he has settled on Still water Cove. I called and it looks like they are wide open on spots also. Thanks again. After looking at Caspar I was hoping he would have chosen that spot.

Is there anything I should check out while I am up there?

Anywhere up there is beautiful, and since it is not ab season I think you could camp at Timber easy if you wanted....you can literally camp right on the beach...pretty amazing.

Bring your spear gun!

 :smt002

Great coast line to paddle and explore if conditions allow!!!

Hope you guys have a great time!!

Sincerely,

Jim

Stillwater is a great choice, it's the only developed campground in that area that has showers, which is a hit with the girls when they go, Salt pt just to the north of that is great too, if you've never been there be sure to drive thru both sides. lot of good areas to spear, gather, or fish off the rocks in both parks.

Enjoy.

So since timber cover and Still water are close to each other, we have decided to check out both and go from there. I like the idea of being able to camp right on the beach.
