A little birdy told me that halibut are starting to show up in shrimp boat nets around Richmond. Anyone tried yet? Think it's going to start early this year...

Probably been dining on fresh herring and roe the last month. There was a huge spawn just north of the richmond toll plaza a few weeks ago. I saw it from the bridge deck up towards Molate just bit.

Hmm... Might drag some tray herring around near red rock some morning this weekend if I get motivated.  I could use a nice paddle workout anyway.

Oyster Point might be a better bet, but I can roll out of bed and be at Point Molate in about 5 minutes. Besides, I've never stepped foot on Red Rock Island, and that place looks neat.

Good luck!  Let us know how you do.

I'm really ointerested in the Bay halibut this year, as it reflects on the ocean halibut down my way.

Can you eat the fish around the pt molate area? I've done some ground water monitoring in that area around 6 years ago and it had pure bunker C contamination from all the old underground oil tanks. Nasty stuff.

current is going to be maching at Red rock by about 10:30...might want to either hit it up about 6 for the last of the incoming, or wait until the start later in the day....

over the last 4 or 5 years it looks like we have a resident population of halibut building (despite the slaughter during the closed salmon years).
Last year in the first week of Feb we nailed stripers plugging at the brickyard, red rock and islands

9erfan- Not sure about eating fish from that area, but you're speaking my language... Are you also an environmental engineer? Geologist?

I generally don't eat fish from the bay. Maybe a halibut or two per season. I've never fished the Richmond area, so it hasn't come up.

no I was just a field tech doing sample collection, taking parameters and so on. Very interesting work.  Now I'm working for  a local municipality doing water and waste water work.
