Pretty sure I'm in.  Hopefully I'll get a little ocean time under my belt between now and then.

count me in....  and Vince!campsites are newly remodeled at State Beach but I would not plan on surf launching from there.I have Bodyboarded that beach for over 15yrs.and it has its flatspells but most of the time it looks calm and then out of nowhere it will be breaking thick shorebreak that surfers cant even get through.the beach is very steep and waves break and climb up the beach hard.it can be done if there is no swell from the south-hemi.

no offense my fellow "Flip"(Filipino)...it's just that I'm sooo tired of hearing all the newbies "catching all the fish".....it just doesn't seem fair to the veterans :smt011 When I took Bill to his first trip to the Green Can in HMB, he spanked the bejeesus out of me.....he outfished me in my own kitchen  :smt013 I'm still seeking therapy for that incident  :smt002 :smt003

...it's all good, I may just join you guys anyway......but the blind fold is still in effect  :smt002

to the newbies: just keep an eye on the boilers out there (boiler is a reef/pinnacle that extends all the way to the water surface - sometimes you see 'em, sometimes you don't depending on the tide and swells) There are a few of 'em out there, so keep an eye on the white caps that these boilers create when a swell goes over it. It would be helpfull to have a fish finder as well - you'll notice that as you paddle closer to a boiler, you see your depth get real shallow immediately = STAY AWAY from that area - especially when the swell are big.

Linda Mar has boilers both North and South of the cliffs as well - I almost hit one on the South Side. I was lucky that I was riding on a swell cause when I looked below the yak and there was a boiler right under me. It was barely visible when I was a few yards in front of it  :smt011 I got real lucky that time! My kayak basically rode over the reef with the help of the swell and I was lucky enough that stearn of the yak did not get caught. SCARY STUFF  :smt010

Maybe when Bill and I do a scouting trip, we can mark these boilers with the GPS when we're out there and pass out the numbers to everyone - just for everyone's safety. By the way, the fishing can be really good by these boilers - but you NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL because you either be sucked in or pushed into it - especially when there are boat wakes coming from all directions - and believe me - there will be a lot of those  :smt045
