so i finally got my gps and started learning to use it. its the magellan sportrak map. price seemed ok at 119.00. do you guys mark a lot of spots or do you only mark pinnacles mainly? i am going to go out this weekend in carmel and dive a few pinnacles and lumps and mark them. maybe i can share some coordinates later. i'll see if i can get out there and do some research.

gps looks like a lot of fun. i will use it mainly for diving and fishing.

john, I got a cheap one myself this week. garmin etrex, $99.

my reason is to help find the moss landing harbour mouth again in the fog.

So don't forget mark your launch spot, ;-), then you can go out even if
it's foggy.

cool! thanks for the tip! i never thought of that actually!

i had to go with the on sale one since i am low on funds and already had to sell some ebay stuff to get the moolah together. seems like its an older model but ok. i better take care of it since i cant afford to go out and get another anytime soon.

oh yeah, i am hoping i can bring it to europe with me when i go with my wife to slocakia since when we are there we do lots of hiking in the woods and look for mushrooms. last time we were there we got lost and it started getting late. the wild boars started coming out and i thought we were goners :smt022 :smt022

so maybe with this gps we'll find out mushrooms and be able to get back to the village in time.

That is the same one I have. You generally don't need to mark your launch  since by default it will "breadcrumb" your path. I think it holds between battery changes as well but you might want to test that before you really need it.

I have marked a few spots but I am not a huge fishing spot marker since I am usually to pumped up catching fish and forget all about the GPS.  :smt003

I finally got a day off, and since I'm an impulse buyer. I pick up a Lowrance H20c at fishermans whse in Manteca, also picked up the topical map of the coast and delta, The neighbors finally came out and asked me what I was doing, walking zig zag around the street. The tracking line cracked me up, I was using it as an Echa-sketch.  :ball

(I know I didn't spell it right, but for the youngsters. I was a toy we had before computers)
