Actually, complete miss! Wad and pellets still jammed up the barrel. I raised to shoot some geese, and I was shooting ammo from last year that had gotten wet, and when I pulled the trigger, it went click! I immediately thought I forgot to chamber a round, cycled another one real fast to get these geese. When I opened the action, I saw there was a round in it, and in that split second, it cooked off! I dropped my gun and felt my face. It was stinging numb and burnt. Gabe's brother Matt is a medic, and came to check me out. I was on the ground, and didnt want to take my hand off my face. Turned out, I just got powder and flash burns. Gabe took pictures of my gun, so he will post them. He also took pics of the shell after he pryed it out. Look at the primer, the silver ooze around the rim. If you have old ammo, check for this, and throw away any shells that look like this one. I got super lucky, and I really hope I can help prevent any of you from having this happen to you. Next one may not be as fortunate.

It was scary. At first I had no idea why Rich was holding his face. I was a little bit away when it happened. Then once I saw what happened I was just glad he was ok. I have never seen a round go off while being extracted. Not a good thing at all. Luckily the pellets headed down the barrel, at least most of them.

What I cant figure, is when you slide the pump back, the next shell comes up the feed ramp, why didnt the explosion, cook that round off too? The entire receiver is smoked! And that shell didnt open like it should have. It opened, but blew out the side too. If it would have ignited the next round, that would have set off the one in the tube. That, would have killed me. Probably would have hurt one of you guys too. I am just glad, nobody was to my right, when it happened. They would have been injured for sure. How many times waterfowl hunting, are you side by side in a blind? All the time. Now that I have had time to reflect, my guardian angel works on holiday weekends!

Wow good thing your ok. Not that the gun was to blame at all, but what kind was it? The manufacture might replace it if under warranty for R&d. Scary stuff.

Maybe the firing pin stuck in the bolt? When you racked it it let loose.

First glad you are okay other then some burns.

Second I have been around when rounds are cooking off, or were set off from other explosions. Its some pretty scary stuff, get some flashbacks? I would have.

I bet your primer was defective. Then when your firing pin hit it, it built up pressure but did not trigger. When you cycled your action the movement and pressure finally fired it on the way out.

I guess I missed your post Rich.  I just posted my version of the story.

It was scary enough at the time, but now that I've had time to reflect on the whole experience, it's even worse.  It could have been a lot worse.  Rich, you're one unlucky bastard...or lucky depending on how you look at it.
