Ive replaced mine off my 4runner twice! :smt013...But I think I figured A way to slow em down! I built this cage around my converter welded it and bolted it to the frame.. It can still be stolen but will take a little more time. :smt009

It was bad enough here in the Cruz that our Toyota dealer would weld the converter to your vehicle & etch the license # into it for free if you came in for an oil change. They did something like 100 before they stopped doing it as a courtesy. Now they charge $60 or something. Still worth it if the converter costs $500.

I think I read somewhere that there 85 thefts in the last 3 months in the vicinity of SC.

any chance you can show pics of the cage you built?  I have two 4x4 Tacomas that I might want to do this to.

I am so f'n pissed about these shitbags stealin anythin and everythin from honest folks.  Just had my boat cover sliced open by some neanderthal who couldn't figure out how to release the drawstring pulley---so he sliced his way in.  There was nothin in the boat anyway!  #4 buck x2, followed by 00 buck x3, followed by three 1 oz. slugs!- Oh I'm so sorry----NOT!

Why are they specifically targeting Toyota's?

Why are they specifically targeting Toyota's?

They are usually bolted on and the vehicles usually have a higher ground clearance which makes it easy to get under.

I've also heard that the older toyotas use more precious metals in the cats so they are worth more.

When the bastards got my 97 T100 I was quoted $1200 for an OEM replacement.  :smt011

I bought a 85 toy pu last yr. After 1k in smog, reg and insurance. 3   consec days at dmv and getting out of there at 5pm on a fri, I go over to my buddies place. Popped in for an hour, came out and it was gone!
Thats my 3rd cat taken from a tyo pu. I swear if I ever come out and find someone under my truck........
