Alright, I'm trying to easily break my GF into camping.  She likes to camp, We've camped at Caspar and a couple other places together
and she enjoys it.  I'm just trying to help her love to camp, like I do,know what I mean?  I would like to find a place that is gonna get her totally stoked on camping.  I think if I can give her what she wants
in a campground that would start her out on the right foot.  I think if I got to pick every single place we camped at, her level of fun
wouldnt be maxed out.  We would be going from fishing adventure to fishing adventure, and, well, you gotta crawl before you can walk.
So I'm really trying to giver her what she wants in a campground to maximize her fun-level.  So at the moment, I dont care what the
fishing is like at whatever lake we end up at.  I've talked it over with her and here is what she wants in a campground;
she would like a lakefront campground with showers in the woods.  Doesn't sound too hard does it?  Well, here comes a bit of a curve ball that I've thought of.  If a
bear wanders into our campground foraging for food at night its going to scare the hell out of her and ruin everything.  I know that its
kind of dumb to ask for a campground recommendation and exclude bears while we are camping, but that is what I'm dealing
with (I hope your paying attention Rick).   So a bear-free lakeside campground in the woods with showers and potable water is what
I'm trying to find.  Got any suggestions fellas?
[/pre]

P.S.  I apologize if this seems scattered, putting my thoughts into written text is difficult at the moment for some reason.  I need a coffee!

Thanks guys!

Lake side camping with showers and no bears huh?  :smt044  Well, I have yet to run into any bears, but that could be a problem if you were in Tahoe, Yosemite, etc.  But for our somewhat local lakes, I don't think anyone I know of has ever run into any problems.  Your not looking for Boat in Campsites are you?  Cause that usually negates the use of a shower... :smt003  But you are looking for lake side camping, right?

Some suggestions for ya:

Lake Mendocino
Lake Don Pedro
New Melones
Clear Lake SP
Lake Berryessa

Sure there are more!  :smt006

plenty of great spots just out side of truckee, also I prefer lakes with no jet skiers or water skiers or loud music wake board boats, thats how I got my wife hooked, she didnt have to worry about being run over by some drunk fool, also you can drive on the shoreline and park anywhere and have your own private beach. Prosser is a great spot to break her in if you can loose the shower option .. great fishing.

Showers? Hmmmmm... your lakeside... theres your shower!!! and its actually cleaner... or buy a solar shower.... :)

or as mentioned get your new RV lined up... :) I often find places with showers are often very crowded, kinda kills the camping buzz for us.

i got pics if you want to see some spots.

Bears, no worries... its like seeing Dolphins next to your yak on the ocean, adds to the experience.. Tahoe stars ate killer too.

Thanks guys.  I think the shower part is negotiable.  I've been camping all over norcal, and I've seen bears here and there.  I
realize its the wild, and they live there, but some places are bear-ier than others, take Twin Lakes for instance, bears every night,
every time I've been there.  Other places, like Hat Creek and McCloud river have bears, but I've never seen one.  So when I say no
bears, I mean, not a usual sighting.  Anyhow, I'm gonna look up the places mentioned.  Keep them coming!  Porky, I'm gonna look up
Prosser, I remember the report and it was sweet.  Thanks again fellas!

cool, my wife loves twinn lakes too..

Prosser is a pretty low key spot considering is close location to truckee. seen a bear once in 20 years, we go every year. Its great for yacking with no boats, other then a couple aluminum fishing boats. its nothing fancy, but we love it. Plenty of dirt roads, with a short moto to Boca and Stampede Res too. Lakeside camping, kayaking, fishing, dirt biking, dirt roading, shore driving, crayfishing, gun blasting and plenty of sun. What else could a girl want :)

As for showers, you can get propane powered "Camp shower" water heaters, I've seen them come in tackle box sized containers, you supply the water (Plastic tub or bin) and fire the thing up and presto hot water.  The one I have (Can't recll the brand or name of it at the moment) uses 2 small (regular I guess) propane cants/tanks, has a 12vdc pump and hose with small shower head.  I've used the heater with my 5 gal propane bottle on week long trips befor.

I've tried the solar heater showers, and at best was only able to get very luke warm water out of them.  Maybe in dead of summer the solar showers may work better, but in winter time, not so much.

There are vehicle mounted heat exchangers that can provide hot water also.  There pretty pricy though.
I built one many years back and istalled it on my Jeep.  I was a popular guy then on the trail. Of course whtin them, you'll need a supply of water, (Creek, lake, river etc..) access to that water, pump, hoses, (Which should come with retail units)
Cabela's, Bass pro, have these camp showers.  The vehicle mounted ones you'll have to do a search on if your interested.  (Used to b a company R&M specialities)  Oh don't forget there are "Privacy shelters" available also.

I dont think you will have to worry about too many boats right now or wakeboards or jet skis its so far into the winter you wont have to worry about that in the summer yes but most lakes right now are empty!

Shellback, I take back my recommendation :) I was assuming you were planning on camping when its not 15 degrees at night in Truckee. Ofcourse there will be no ski boats ripping around, well any sane ones :) Anyhow that campground is closed, but you could do a commando mission lake side.

Man, my wife would never tent camp with me and those temps this time of year. Id get the RV :)

Id go lower in elevation! Enjoy your trip.
