Angel Island Kayak in campsites

Just thought I would post a quick comment on the Angel Island Kayak in camp sites.  I reserved a couple of nights this past summer and had a great experience.  I convinced a few buddies to pack gear and paddle with my son and I across Raccoon Straight for some camp fun.  We paddled around Tiboron over to Richardson Bay and back around before crossing ..... we were waiting for the 30 KN gusts to die down a bit....my son is 8 and I didn't want to totally freak him out....actually I'm cool with freaking him out it's his mom that I would rather not worry.  Anyway....we crossed in my Cabo Ocean Kayak double and had a lot of fun cruising over the swells and chop.....I tried fishing as we paddled....a mistake in a double while crossing Raccoon Straight with heavy sailboat traffic.....anyway....My son asked me to turn off my VHF as we were listening to 3 simultaneous rescues happening along the city front and Berkely.....once I listened to him we both relaxed and made it across and landed on the beach.....found the trail up to camp (3 minute walk) and made camp.  We fished from shore and played around the island...hiking to the San Francisco side...very cool....got to watch the Oracle making practice jibes along Crissy Field.  I recommend the Kayak in campsites.....keep a close watch on the tide and currents and make your bay crossings strategically (cross on slack tide or just the beginning of flood....beware of the hard ebb).  The park rules state that you are not allowed to leave kayaks on the beach....so we drug my yak and gear 20 yards up the hill and tied it to a tree.

Thanks for the info, I'd like to take a trip like that this coming year.  How did you reserve a site?  What was the capacity?  How was the protection from the weather?
