Nice catch StevenM!

What species are those? They look like spotted bass. If they are spotted those are some trophies you have! :smt006

No idea what you guys call them. There is just one species of Aussie Bass. Common around the 30-40cm range.

Those fish were caught about a month ta six week agao. They were in or around the 50-54cm range(fork)

My best is a 56 cm fork...keep being told about the 60cm bass...never seen one even in a pic...its my holy grail..know they are out there so thats my chalange

Macquaria novemaculeata is their scientific name if that means anything.

Cheers

Very interesting. I didn't realize Australia had their own family of bass.

Excluding the head, they resemble a carp - at least the coloring.

My largest Peacock Bass from Lake Wilson, island of Oahu, Hawaii.  C&Rd estimate weight 6 pounds

They look more like winter bass colors to me. The difference I see are the larger fins and smaller mouth.

And that shows my extensive background in dealing with bass. :smt009  I'll defer to the expert and say ditto to what Compa says. :smt003

Oh, no. I am no expert dilbeck. :smt009

Humility is a terrific quality.  If we polled the site, it would be you, Hobieblue and Hydrospyder in no specific order.  I'm sure there are a few other names I left off but the 3 of you come to mind instantly.

Nice.  The fish formula computes it to be around 11 pounds with a 6% margin of error.

Weight=(lengthxgirth^2)/1050

Well done Compa.

Thanks for sharing.

Being a math teacher, I'm kinda fond of formula's.  The 1050 is the fishes shape factor for LMB.  For small mouth, divide by 1100.  Keep sticking those pigs Compa, the pics are great.

Jaime, do you tag your fish in any way, so that you can recognize them next time you catch them?
