Met up with an old friend for some morning duck shooting on Saturday. It was a bluebird day, not a cloud in the sky and no breeze. The ducks and geese were flying high, except for one wood duck drake, that buzzed us about the time we were getting ready to go. First wood duck of the year, and the kids were there for it! Then, on our way to the quail grounds to try out Mike's new pointer, I seen this little buck, and closed the distance on him and punched that tag! The buck broke off the other antler when it fell, and is now a good luck charm for Savana! Here are some pics of the event. Cut up the deer Saturday, and ground burger and sausage on Sunday. You just can't beat a weekend like that with the kids!

Thanks guys, Andy, that wood duck is the best tasting waterfowl there is! I got one tiny nibble, Cody, as you all know, ate the whole duck in one sitting, and then we had to make some test patties from the burger and sausage. This weekend, crab on Saturday, and ducks again on Sunday! I would like to get into the ducks and get enough to make some duck linguica!

Great tasting and one beautiful bird. I had a nice mount of a drake and my new lab chewed it up. After that I donated all my mounts to Mel Cottons. At least when I go there I can see them. That was seven years ago and they are still there.

Guys, this is what it is all about, takin the kids out there, and get them away from the games, phones, and TV! Any parent, that wants a great family outing for kids of any age, hit me up, I have been doin this for a long time, and probably have a very low cost, new activity for you and your family. There is a good chance me and mine will go along with ya! Also, hunting in california is tough. I got a lot of very youth friendly public and private ground, were we can get them onto game. I just got a four man blind in rice that will be flooded as soon as harvest is over. I think once they have a great hunt, they will invest into the heritage! I also have a great quail spot on both public and private ground. Fall turkey and pheasant are around the corner too! Let's get some (right Sledge!) with the youth/women hunters!

I have only been hunting once. And that was pretty much following my grandpa in the woods to find a black bear when I was 17.

great family outing for kids of any age, hit me up

I consider myself a kid, would you take Kat and I out? I may not have any animal hunting experience but I do have shooting experience  :smt070 hunting the most elusive prey... man.  :smt044 Just kidding man is the easiest prey.

This weekend I will be doing some shooting of my own... only for the Army. Yea special emergency response team, gas masks, night fire op stuff.

I don't have a hunting license though. Besides the hunter safety course and the basic license what else do I need? And could I get it all in time?
