effective Oct 1, so its already in place.

EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2011, VESSEL INSPECTIONS FOR QUAGGA AND ZEBRA MUSSELS TO BEGIN AT SAN LUIS RESERVOIR SRA

All boats, personal watercraft, kayaks, canoes, sailboards, inflatables, and float tubes must undergo a mandatory inspection.  This inspection is to prevent the spread of Quagga and Zebra Mussels.  This invasive species threatens recreational opportunities, the water delivery infrastructure of California, and the aquatic habitat of San Luis Reservoir SRA.  Failure to allow inspection of any watercraft will result in the refusal to launch.

Just be aware before you go.  Any questions - call 209 826 1197.  I don't know how they will work out a banding system for kayaks, that may be a good thing to find out.  No fees for inspection - yet.  This does make sense (and at the same time not make sense) considering how interconnected San Luis/O'Neill is with our canal system and the delta.

Last year they thought it was too late and both were infected already... Glad they are not. Lots of boats come up from LA basin... Makes sense after dodging the bullet that they would start inspecting. Delta region stands to be compromised if it is...
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

These "inspections" are so inconsistent that it makes me sick :smt011 Some lakes have "self inspections" some lakes have multiple boat ramps (or places that you can easily launch a small boat or kayak from) yet they only have one inspection area. I even heard the inspections in Lake Tahoe is a joke  :smt011

Also, last year, I took my stand up paddle board to Stevens Creek and the inspector waved me in and I did not get inspected. And just recently, I went back and they inspected my SUP  :smt011

They might as well start inspecting every single duck that lands on the lake.....coz if I was a quagga, I'd hitch a ride on a duck every chance I get...
