My Condolences Eric...

 That's a tough one,

you tried and it's hard when ya know it could have made a difference if he had listen to you....

From seeing what I have seen in diabetic comas, I do not think ANY diabetic with any possibility of this happening ( diabetic coma ) should go out alone... unconscious, heading towards seizure, the chances of having one's airway underwater even with a pfd, are great... but, a pfd couldn't hurt and is going to give a rescuer or buddy a chance to help...

so sorry Eric....

wishing you the best with this and his family....

Just now saw this. My condolences Eric. In life you can only strive to "do your best" and you surely did all you could with your PFD reminders. In the end we all make our own choices.

Over the weekend I paddled around a large number of Kayakers, and we had a diabetic "incident" during Sunday's outing. Fortunately it was just a case of getting to the beach and getting food in the afflicted paddler and all was well, but it did bring the safety issue/importance of being alert/knowing your own body etc while in the wilderness into sharp focus. We were on an island with at least a 30-40 minute helo ride each way to get to medical facilities.

RIP Bob, and be assured that you have helped an untold number of paddlers think about their own safety.

Feeling pretty sad hearing about this... Met Bob at all the FW events he went to and had a good time chatting about fishing with him.  Like to suggest (if not done already) that we hold a moment of silence for him at the Tiki lagoon.  May he rest in peace... :smt010
