I'd decided that my little mudsucker had given his all. He'd drifted untouched for too long, but he was still out on a slow troll. I'd lazily leaned hard to the right to pull a new muddie from the bait bucket behind me. Wrist deep past the little hinged door, searching for the biggest bait, the rod went off, of course.
Everything happened so fast. The drag was set a little too tight, considering that the rod was set to the right, my weight was leaning hard to the right, and now, my hand was stuck in the bait bucket. The yak leaned and then leaned some more. For a brief half second, I fought simultaneously to get my hand free, keep from sliding into the water and, the stupid sick fisherman, to grab the rod with my free hand. When the only thing I saw was water, I rolled my weight hard to the left, freeing my hand somehow in the process. I never thought a yak could tilt so far without flipping. Pure luck, I managed to right the boat and fight the fish. I'll never be that lazy again. Scared the sheeet out of me.

You can thank your kayak manufacturer/hull designer for excellent secondary stability!

...and pat yourself on the back for quick reflexes & instinct. :smt002

So, that's what you guys mean by secondary stability? :smt003 Fun way to learn. If school had been so fun, I'd of attended more often.

Being that I'm still a "borrower" of a kayak, I'll be sure to give the thanks to the loaner.

The other end of the line held a 28" striper. Pictures? Naw, no waterproof camera. I'm still working on the yak part of the fishing project. Fish set free to flip someone else.

Jim, I'm still working on the back-rest. There's 4 clips; 3 too many for me. It's all so confusing :smt002

A head mounted video of it all happening would have been perfect.  With sound - even more so. :smt007
