i think the main key here is just to get out on a lake and practice.

Its not as easy as it looks the first few times then it gets eaiser

I too think the videos are great, but far too many (IMHO) aren't acually going out and ensuring that they are able to self rescue. Hopefully I'm wrong.

That Float looks very handy. Do any of you guys know where to get one of those.

All the kayak shops have those in stock.  ( Paddle Float ) .     Water Wings,,, LOL.

Practice practice practice... until you can do it without thinking.   It's really not that hard.

Your paddle should be tied to a leash at all times,  holding it in your hand while trying to flip and climb back in seems like a deterrent.

I carry a paddle float on my X-Factor.  I keep it already attached to one end of my spare paddle, so if I need it, its right there and ready to use.  It's made me feel safer on the water, espeically when doing solo missions on the salt.

I took a self rescue class using sit inside kayaks. Pretty difficult to get the kayak upright as they fill with water and become very heavy. Getting back on board is also difficult because you have to get inside the cockpit on what is usually a less stable boat than most fishing kayaks. Using the paddle float as an outrigger not only gives you more stability, you can then throw a leg over it to help you climb on board. Like others have said, it is much more difficult than these videos make it look. Practice.
