I get the bigger ones at outdoor pro shop in rohnert park.. theyve got all sizes usually.    I like the 4 oz triangular jig heads usually in red for  when Im using a bighammer swimbait.

Bill, I asked for the 4oz last time I was in there and all they carry now is 3oz and under. Last 4's I got were from Wilderness Hunter.

I like Charkbait but they have a crappy website, all their leadheads aren't posted together, so the big stuff is hard to find, take a look at these links

And my last load did come from Brian, I just go to Charkbait when I want the painted ones.  I believe Andy1976 sells some too.

Dale, so they are getting $4.29 for one 4oz leadhead or is that price for a package of two?

I actually sent em and email on that, I wanted to get some fast and was willing to pay the $4.29 for one just to see them, but there was 2 in the pack. So I emailed them about it, also some of the other stuff was miss labeled, and a reel I got was loaded backward, sent an email about all of it, got no response.  I've had other minor issues with'em in the past but on the whole I still order from them.

That is a great price for the painted 4oz. They are $6.79 for that same package of two at Petaluma Sport & Dive.

mtncat,

How's the weather up there in Yreka? I'll be hitting the cabin on Copco in a week or so, heard it's blazing up there right now. Heard of any steelies below Irongate yet? Last year they had some adults showing now.

I'll add a pitch for powder coating your own lead heads. I was able to get some unpainted jig heads cheap from wildernesshunter, and then bought powder paint through JannsNetCraft. I know it sounds like a pain, or that it might be messy, but it's easier than I ever imagined it would be, and left no mess at all. In about 30 minutes I powder painted 24 lead heads in my kitchen oven. It's cheap and ridiculously easy to do. Now I'm kind of mad at myself for all those years of paying extra for painted lead.

I've been dipping mine in tool handle rubber, makes them red and it's easy and convenient.  I'm sure there are other colors too, just haven't looked.  It takes a couple of seconds to dip and hang one to dry.

Hey, that sounds like a good idea, and I'll bet it's more durable than paint,

although I have powdercoated a few and it stays on really well, I just have to refine the process so it's not such a chore.

And does it even matter?  Rockies and cabs and ling I think just bite anything when they're hungry.

It takes a beating but is easily "repaired" unlike powder coating.   I also delude myself into thinking that it will deaden the report of lead on rock which I just can't imagine is the best  "that sounds like something to eat" sound.  fwiw
