You fishing for salmon at the cape?  Do you have to go as far out when down at the cape?

Mike - I'm addicted to salmon fishing on the ocean...  So, yes, I fish for them over there, but in over 10 years fishing there I've not landed a salmon - we've had two up to the boat unexpectedly on shrimpflies.  The focus there is big lings and rockies, and we go a mile or so out.  The launch is pretty easy, but the wind comes up way earlier than just about anywhere on the west coast.  I try to only go there when they forecast 5 knots, and even those days usually blow out by noon or earlier.

For Trinidad, bring your ab gear, Guys - we can paddle north of the Head a couple miles to a little honey hole if anyone's into it...

The conditions look good Sun and Mon :smt001
Really want to get on the salt again before the season closes.
I'll have to sell the wife on it, :smt008
she will probably want to spend the labor day weekend with me :smt002
maybe if I ask her if she wants to go to Trinidad to escape the heat for the weekend she may bite.
I know a bonzai day run would not appeal to her, :smt009
but if  other North Valley Slayers and Humboldt Brothers show up on Sun or Mon while we are there she may be cool with that :smt004
Hope she's in a good mood :smt001
I'll let you guys know either way,
Tad

Just got home from a long day! :smt012 and what got me through was the thought of going out into the salt with some NCKA folks.  :smt003

I am in for Sunday and Monday...just need to call and find a room for Saturday night (could come earlier and do a Saturday night fish if anyone ever tries that. ?. I will call tomorrow to chase down a motel room for my son and I...I am falling alsleep here.

Never been to the cape....sounds interesting as long as it is an easy in and out. One day cape next Trinidad sound great to me...? and inbetween Lost Coast Brewery  :smt003...wish I did ab dive that's another day on my list.

Looking forward to driving over and leaving the heat! :smt004

After this weekend I'm booked until mid October, so I'm game for a banzai run either Sunday or Monday, preferably Monday.

Hey Ben, are you not going over with the family this weekend ?
I'm up for a banzai run Sun. or Mon.

Spending tomorrow w/ the in-laws has given me the WAF for a green lighted banzai run on Monday, with some great looking conditions (keeping the fingers crossed).  Leave Redding at 3am, home sometime in the evening.  Tim, sounds like you're in.  Dave, sounds like you'll already be there (lucky dog!).  Tad, see what you can do man!  Eric, Cape sounds awesome, if I could make an overnighter I would be down, but I'm thinking T-dad to save the drive time and have an option if things slop up.

Sounds like we'll have a good crew Monday.  The forecast has sweetened for Sunday.  Dave - I'll PM you about the Cape run so we can coordinate.  Anyone else who wants to join for Sunday morning can get in touch.   :smt001

Eric,

Post the time and place you guys are going to meet sunday morning.  I got roped into the blues fest on Sunday ButI don't think that I need to be there until 3ish.  I would like to go out for a while on Sunday and work out some bugs for Monday (it has been a long time since I salmon fished.  Also you guys run 25 lb test line?  I was thinking of changing my line.

Mike - I'll PM you directions to the launch.  I'm too hard to pin down 2 days in advance, and that MO serves me well in terms of both family relations and better fishing opportunities.   :smt001

25 is good.  We'll be focusing on rockfish and lingcod Sunday at the Cape.

I was just talking to Gregg at Grundaman's and he said that the party boats are catching salmon north of the stacks between 40 and 60 feet of water.  It could be good for the sleds.   :smt001
