Got a window of free time between my Team in Training 6 mile run and having to go to San Jose to see the inlaws...they requested a dinner of RockFish so Ana gave me the greenlight to go hunting!

 :smt003

Picked up Porky and headed down to a spot that I have been to before, but that has been too rough for me recently.

When we showed up it was FAC so despite the cove being choked with kelp we decided to give it a go!  :smt004

Viz was at least 20 in spots and it was beautiful diving with plenty of structure to explore.  :smt007

Slim pickings on the fishies though, despite hunting hard and looking in every hole I could find.  :smt012

Put together a stringer of smallish steamer sized blues, kelpies and black and yellows and then headed over to this exposed point to see if I could find an MFPB for a kicker fish.  :smt003

Found a FAT MFPB eel head, but the angle of the shot was very awkward and I missed it entirely.  :smt009

10 minutes later I found another nice sized one, and nailed it right in the face but the flopper did not engage and I pulled out an empty shaft.   :smt013 :smt010 :smt013 :smt010

The surge and waves prevented me from finding the hole again and I had to head in knowing that I probably killed him for nothing.   :smt009

Cooked up half the fish in San Jose for Ana's sister's family and left the other half for her uncle's.

Great day of diving overall and was glad I was able to get Porky back in the water!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks for driving Jim, had a good time my friend!

Sledge, saw a few small rockies here and there, but wanted someting more, they were just too small.  Pretty sparce out there, but fun!

I did however land a HUGE nap in the sand on the beach after only 2 hours in the water :) Jim trooped on for another hour and a half!

When prepared right, even a little dinky rocky can be turned into a beautiful tasty full meal!

I'd maybe be offended if I hadn't seem some of the dinks you've brought back to shore!

 :smt002 :smt008

The look on Ana's grandma's face yesterday when she was telling me in Spanish how much she enjoyed cooking and eating the pescaditos tan frescos y ricos made shooting the dinks and bringing them home all worth it...WAY better than coming home to a house full of hungry inlaws empty handed IMO.
