My parents are in town visiting so took my Dad out for a day of fishing out of SWS on the kayaks!

Was hoping to have my Mom and Valentina meet us down there in the PM to get Vale back on the yak, but we were short on vehicles, so turned out to be just my Dad and I.

FAC and beautiful sunny skies and perfect temps!!   :smt007

Was so excited in the AM, I forgot my dive knife in the car AND forgot to delete the memorty card in the GoPro, so only got footage of my first three fish...

Paddled outside of the cove to a spot where I have found some nice schooling blues and olives with the hope my Dad could pick up a few fish to get the day started right.

I jumped in with the speargun while he started jigging away from up above.

Viz was off with a plankton bloom of some sort (looked like millions of tiny pulsing jellyfish!) but managed to scrounge up three decent rockies and my Dad picked up a pair as well.....notable lack of the schooling fish that I have seen in this spot, but my Dad did get a big take down that must have been a nice Ling that ran back to his hole and broke him off!   :smt009

Saw Ernest Lucky13 and his son out there as well...thanks for the sunscreen for my Dad buddy!!

After two hours of hunting in the murky dark, I decided it was time for a change so we paddle North a ways and started hook and line fishing together...I caught and released a few dinks, and then the calm water in close to the rocks called my name and I grabbed the gun and jumped back in.

What a difference at this spot!!   :smt007 :smt007  Thick schools of blues swarming around eating big floating jellies and MUCH better viz too!!  :smt003

Shot 6 blues quickly, then spent half an hour so hunting for a cabbie but couldn't find him so shot one more to finish my limit of RF and swam back to the yaks.

Saw boogiebrdsteve coming back from tank diving..always great to see you buddy!!  :smt006

Back on the yak started cleaning the fish and enjoying the sun and put out a rod deadsticking a big Lingbar on it just in case....right then my Dad get's a NICE takedown, some strong headshakes, a big bendo and pulls up a NICE 17+ inch Verm!!   :smt007 :smt007 :smt007  His first Verm and biggest yak fish so far!!  WTG DAD!!!

He starts saying he has the biggest fish of the day, and my rod goes bendo!!  Pull it out of the holder and feel the aggressive drag ripping runs that mean a decent Ling!!!   :smt003

Get him up to the surface after a nice fight, and realize Dad has the net, gaff and fish grips on his yak!  Just grab the Ling bar and pull him in and can tell he is easily over 22 inches so give him the death grip with my fingers in his eyeballs and pin him under my leg while I get him on my stringer!

Not a monster, but a nice solid 25 inch beauty!   :smt004

Paddle back in and see Nelson Kwok heading out...hope you had a great day bro!!   :smt006

Back home I filet the Verm for pops, filet 9 rockies for ceviche, keep the rest for cooking whole, and we have LingCod cheek sashimi and blackened Ling steaks for dinner!!

Great times with my Dad!!

 :smt001

Here's a little vid of what footage I did get, and the still pics from my camera!

Sincerely,

JIm

Sweet post Jim!  I can't wait to take my father inlaw out from korea, if he every makes it out here.  And I done the same thing with the gopro memory.  Nowadays I cut and paste it off the card instead of copying, so I dont make that mistake again.

That is outstanding Jim!  I love the father-son time.

Wish my father enjoyed the kayak but unfortunately he hates it.  :smt011

WTG.  Shark_bait and I were out there saturday and it was cold and overcast all day with a strong current.  What a difference a day makes!

Had lots of short bites, something I seldom get when rock fishing.  Massive hit, on for moment then nothing.

Sounds like Sunday was good all around. It is cool to fish with your dad like that Jim, very cool!

Great day. It was nice seeing Jim and his dad out there. It was my son's first time out in the ocean (not counting ARW since that's inside the Bay). The swell was almost nil, but being the first time out, that was enough to make him feel uncomfortable and we cut the trip short. Anyhow, he managed to catch one blue and didn't even know he had a fish on. I did manage six RF, but they were all pretty small. Had to really work at it by hopping around the kelp paddies.

Thanks again Jim, I missed the "rock cod pet and knife grind" action. :smt005 Always remember your dive knife :smt044

Jim, it's so cool that your dad has been able to come and make several visits/trips with you! I enjoyed reading your Alaska report as well as this one too.

Hope you and the family are doing well! :D
