As recommended by numerous avid divers, I am going to test the number of weights I need to use in my brothers pool tomorrow; but I have one questions (which will probably lead to more):

is the chlorine in the pool water bad for any of the freed dive gear, especially the freedive wetsuit?

Thanks,

Glen = FNG

1st Salt water and fresh water have different buoyancy factor

2nd Yes chlorine is not good for any piece of dive gear, silicone, rubber, plastic, ETC.

So, I shouldn't test it in the pool? or should I just make sure I rinse the hell out of everything...

If your just looking to determine your weight belt weight they have calculators online that you can plug in height, weight, wetsuit type, etc. to get you in the ball park. If your a little light you just have to kick harder to get to the bottom on that trip. As much money as I spent on my gear the last thing I'd do is take a dunk in a chlorine bath. Just my 2 cents

You can test it in a pool, but the buoyancy will be different, as abdiver said. You can compensate for this by adding 2-3 pounds, though.

The chlorine isn't good for it, unless you rinse it in freshwater after. Then it's fine.

Also, make sure the pool is deep enough. You need more weight to dive shallow than deep, with added factors such as surge.

You should do a final bounce test in the surf and build confidence before going diving. Just spend a few min. playing with your gear on.

I plan to test the gear out Friday at Albion Campground, at the shores... from what I hear it's salt water so I can do a bouynace test... and close to camp so I can do adjustments...

if you can get your hands on some old style sporasub clip on weights those area great for adjusting for shallow and deep dives. i use a 2lb clip on weight as needed. you can also make your own with a 2lb lead weight with tuna line and a longline clip.

when hunting shallow i use an additional 2lbs.

SCU has a saltwater filtration for it's 50 meter pool.  Not nearly as salty as ocean water tho.  Campbell community pool has a kids program where the kids pee so much it's like swimming in seawater, gross out factor ten.

I sometimes train in my racing wetsuit.  The pool water not only discolors the blind stitched glued seams it makes neoprene a little crumbly feeling
