i am thinking of getting one because i livei n the ghetto and its almost a prerequisite. we have some pretty scary folks near us as i have found out and even one guy who peeps in our window on occasion. he's lucky he runs faster than an asian guy in flip flops because once i was going to put a speargun shaft in his butt.

i have 4 spearguns and no firearms. i have a polespear i might sacrifice and cut down to use as a pungee stick under our bathroom window.

oh yeah, i have 2 filet knives and a rolling pin too :smt003

I am not an anti gun liberal or anything but a while back I pondered two questions that I had to answer before buying a gun.  My answers told me that I shouldn't by a gun.

1.  If I shot someone with a gun and killed them would I be able to live with myself?
(chances of needing to use a gun for protection are really slim)

2.  What if I flew off the handle one day because someone did something worthy of a beat down, but not death. However I was so upset I got the gun out and used it.  Now what?

Just some questions to ponder.

If I lived in a place where shootings and deaths of innocent people were common place I would probably change my mind.  However I prefer the baseball bat beat down instead.

nunchucks are rad Joel...... :smt002

Remember when Bruce Lee kicked that big basketball players butt with them?

Forgot the name of the movie or the player...

And to the poll, yup I am armed. Only for personal protection in home. Its not wise for civilians to carry firearms in cars or in public. If you feel unsafe in a situation remove yourself.

i will bust out my flying flinging flip flops of death and whack the person who might be causing me harm on the side of the hear. i will then follow by slapping him around with a nice bruce lee yell.

maybe we can have a nunchuck making day and source some wood dowels and hardware from orchard supply. im afraid i'll accidentally whack myself silly.

I live in lodi. They stock the houses with them out here. I live in the boonies and the cops take 30 -40 minutes to arrive out here. If something major happens I have to be self sufficient. I prefer a short ( not saw-off Joel) shot gun for outside close quaters. Inside the house a fighting knives are better usually as using a gun in close quaters is difficult.  I would prefer to take on an intruder in the yard rather in the house as most criminals are very poor shots and I would definately have the upper hand in a fire fight. That's life. God made man and Colt made them equal.  I am confident in what I have that I would never use it except in target or defense. The bat method lets you take out aggression far better than a gun ever would.

Matt = Kareem Abdul Jabar  :icon_r&r: in the Movie "Game of Death". Bruce Lee never finished this Movie - he died in the middle of the filming. In my "yout" (youth) I was a die-hard Bruce Lee fan  :karate......I hate to sound like Cliff Clavern form Cheers but did you know Kareem Abdul Jabar was a student of Bruce Lee  :smt045

as far as using nunchuks.....I'd probably do more harm to myself if I used it to defend myself....but the would-be attacker would most likely die of laughing  :smt002 ...so technically, I win  :smt003

I think it was Enter the Dragon.  Kareem Abdul Jabar (sp?) was the basketball player.  Chuck Norris was in that movie, too.

I sold all of my guns a few years ago, just didn't have any interest in hunting anymore.  I did keep one black powder pistol, a lot of good that would do, wait, wait while I load my gun, it will only take a minute or two  :smt005

nunchaku are illegal to carry in CA ... unless you are on your way to/from your martial arts class. (So, OK to possess in home, but not outside)
I have actually trained with nunchakus (refer to above sentence) and made 2 or 3. I have also trained several other "traditional" martial arts weapons. As a self-defense tool, I rate nunchakus pretty low--a small portion of which is the legal aspect. Even when someone is well practiced with them, they still come in below other "options."

The "stick of wood" is my choice. between 1" and 1and an eighth inch diameter smooth round. 24" up to 4'. It must be a wood that is at least as dense as oak. (I think the specific gravity of oak is ~.86) However, a denser wood is much better, and you are not going to find that at Home Depot. I have a greenheart piece w/ a specific gravity >1. I also have some bubinga that's pretty heavy. I bought my wood at a place on the road to San Quentin. (Bought full boards and cut them down.)

If someone wants something more weapon-like, the PR-24 type (tonfa) is pretty good. Practice still reqiuired, and legal issues again.
