I've only met you a couple times, whether you ever fish BH is up to you.  Myself and your NCKA brothers support you.
With the dangers of kayak fishing it is the way we support eachother in order to come back alive that helps make NCKA the special organization it is.  I had a great fishing day there in September, camped nearby and went to fish there the next day.

Adam – I know you will do your best to deal with you PTSD. It is very courageous of you to have even been out on the water since the attack. Your descriptions of the attack in this thread seem even more vivid than your original descriptions, so it’s easy to infer how much this is bothering. You are doing the right thing in talking it out. Keep talking to people, Vets or whomever on how they deal with their PTSD. Whether or not you get back on the Ocean, the most important thing to know is that you control your life and that it is not controlled by some overgrown (albeit dangerous) fish.
We care and support you.   Thank you very much for caring enough about us to issue these warnings !!!!!!
LRM~ i remember you that day.....i told you that BH has special rules = 1/2 limts only!!
Thanks for keeping it real....& see you somewhere soon!

I hate to be a spoil sport but why is this topic in Hookups? I must be the one confused since I don't see anyone hooking up here.

i wanted those who desired to fish Bean Hollow this season, and did not know it's location or history, to be warned by me.
sorry if i got your hopes up for a hook up, i just felt that i needed to share what i've experienced there,in my short 12 months of hitting it.

Probably so that when people go to post a hook-up for The Bean, this will be smack dab in their face as a reminder of the dangers that come with fishing this location.

Dr. Habanero has no medical representation other than medicinal.   :smt044 I'm sorry for bringing this up but everyone should know the risks that are inherent with Bean Hollow by now and if it helps other then so be it. I am just not into seeing "Preparing toDie" every time I look at the hook-up.  It is something that should be discussed maybe put a top ten danger spots listing
1. Bean Hollow
2.Stinson

"Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don't you dig how beautiful it is out here? Why don't you say something righteous and hopeful for a change?" quoted form oddball
Sorry for the bad vibes but trying to think posivitve waves man.

I don't think the original intention was to scare people away or as a way for Adam to handle his PTSD (I'm sure it helps tho).  But, just as a reminder that there's more to this place than "catching" and is more dangerous than other launch spots.

There are numerous fish reports showing the quality of fish being pulled from there and sometimes people get fixated on that. At the very least, it lets those who are new to the sport know of the history and they can determine if it's worth the risks.

Also, for the comparisons to driving - my 880 commute is relatively safe and hassle free.  There are always dangers, but it's a lot safer than the 152 stretch in Gilroy... some roads are more dangerous than others.

Darius, I don't know what you mean?  I'm not sure how you interpreted what I said but I meant nothing bad by it.  Looking back, I was merely trying to say what Adam posted right before me.

I've gone back to hopefully clarify and better explain what I meant.

*Adam, PM sent.

Hey Adam.  I have read your post here for awhile now and clearly see that you are a pillar and troubadour in the kayak community at large.  After having this terrible experience and seeing you put your kayak back together shows your heart will never leave the game.  I wouldn't fish that place again either.  When that shark crushed your kayak and almost you, I think we all felt it in a small, back of our mind, nightmarish kind of way.  But you F ing were eye to eye with it and most of us will never understand the horror of what that's REALLY like.  I hope you find your peace and I hope to have the honor of fishing along side you some day. Stay cool.
Tight lines.
Bob~ your words make me feel like it happened for a reason.....if I could help another deside if the place is not worth the risk, then i guess it was for a very good reason it happened the way it did. If i had not survived, i'm pretty sure no one would know(except for those who follow NCKA closely) the real facts about this place and that your odds on an encounter with a GWS are alot greater than other places.
Thanks for taking the time to write such a heart string pulling reply....My wife thinks no one like me, wait until i tell her this! (insert me standing proud&tall here)

I like what is being said here.  Sean's words are strong reminders for any of us who find ourselves obsessed with getting OTW.

maybe my outlook needed to be changed

Whatever happens to any of us, I think it's best to view the world with a forward-thinking, positive, half-full type of lens.

Adam's doing that here - well done, Brother Adam.   :smt056

What I find very fascinating (picture Spock on a yak   :smt003) is that Adam has always operated with an M.O. that isn't all wrapped up in competition and conquest like so many of the rest of us seem to get drawn into (speaking of myself and anyone who currently obsesses over catching giant crappie and perch from their yak...).  Adam has approached the sport with camaraderie and sheer enjoyment as his goals, and he's achieved those PLUS caught some beautiful fish.  So what's his focus now?  How can I empathize with this man who I know and care about?  What is it about his current communication that I should take away for myself?  Because, surely, he doesn't owe any of us this current choice to be seen as vulnerable and hurt.  I think the growth that Adam's pursuing here is admirable, but I know that his choice to share himself and his pain as well as his deep desire to be whole again has to do with the Community and Brotherhood here.  I'm glad for that.  Thank you, Adam.   :smt008

Kick its ass, Adam, but don't put yourself in a place where you have anything to prove - you don't!
you guys are really bringing tears to my eyes with your kind words,,,,,,i can not express my true feelings other than saying:
WOW! when i found this family on the information highway, i just wanted a tip or two on how to go out and try and catch a fish from a kayak that i bought used for $600. Since then, you guys have given me nothing but love!!!
Eric you should be a hostage negotiator,,,,you're good with words :smt010
