I love the ocean.  However I am cognizant of the dangers and the many ways it can harm me.

This post and subsequent  feeback helps me evaluate whether I want to take a risk.

I definitely am taking Bean Hollow off my bucket list.

Thanks for the post.

Thanks for posting Adam.

What do you guys think about Pigeon pt, Pescadero, San gregorio etc etc.

It's a shame to write off the whole San Mateo coast since it is pretty much the closest good fishing for many of us who live in the bay area.

Personally I have fished the Pigeon a couple times this year but I feel lucky each time I get back to my family and with the fishing as slow as it's been lately it doesn't seem worth it anymore. I really don't want to be "that guy".

I have had some great times down there but I'm thinking more and more that I should just make the longer trek north or south to good fishing.

Your doing the right thing by posting the small but significant scientific study that ncka members have done here...

"They" say that you are more likely to get run over by a semi, or hit by lightning...

But is fishing BH like time spent running accross the freeway, or standing tall in an open field during a thunderstorm, maybe?

I guess having the trampolines on each side (of an AI) does give slight comfort. At least you can roll onto them or have something to hang onto during an attack. It doesn't sound like much fun though. You would hope the view from below would look less like a seal or sea lion to Mr. Jaws. Of course, you may end up looking like 3 seals...

I couldn't imagine the ultimate fear that some of you guys have directly experienced.

Lake Berryessa is looking better all the time!

2 of those 6 sightings /WTF's were from Pig.Pt.........i wished that the adjacent beaches were any different, but i feel they are the same as BeanHollow = in the "Heart" of TheRedTriangle.

Thanks Fishunter...

Your doing the right thing by posting the small but significant scientific study that ncka members have done here...

The statistics are off the chart that this place is The Landlords Home and were very lucky that we have not lost anyone...

Bean Hollow is Officially off my list, had my fun there, but the odds are just to great for the reward of fish tacos...

and Adam if you must go, which I understand, you are welcome to my Shark Shield...
thanks Don, but i gotta go out barebacked(at least at first)

a freeway of angry tractor&trailers,,,,,it's only a matter of time before you get hit.

which reminds me of a story~
as i was driving down to fish B.H., on the first day of a planned four days in a row, I said to myself,"self, someone is gonna get hit soon, and the person who is gonna get hit, is the person who fishes it the most"......the very next day I got it.

Thanks for the pictures Adam, good reminder of what lurks there. I was thinking about going out before Sharktober, but Mike's report ended that idea. That and remembering the time I was out there fishing alone. Sitting in a spot far offshore I had something bump the back of my boat hard, looked back and saw nothing but water the color of chocolate milk.
Kayak fishing just hasn't been the same since last year. I miss the good times we had fishing there.    :smt010

I might go for the star formation if there was a big enough group.

I have to agree with Darius, when it's your time, it's your time. I am a believer in fate. Having said that, a shark won't attack you on land but the fishing isn't so good from land sometimes... Like Adam is saying, are you prepared? We all make choices in life, and we are all going to die someday. Love you guys.

I agree with some, and not with others. Is it really that much safer to drive a longer ways to safer waters, but still risk your neck just as much with the increased time on the road?
I also cannot even compare my opinion to someone who has experienced an encounter firsthand, and the numbers don't lie, but did anyone so much as shed a drop of blood? (Yeah, I know, I think I remember that you got nipped, right Adam?) Sure, the chance of an encounter might be good, but that doesn't mean that you're going to end up as crab-bait. You'll simply be left with a severe case of PTSD. No biggie. (Note, sarcasm).
I, for one, would rather meet my end in such a primal way, rather than health reasons, or car wrecks. It's even more honorable than being boarded by a seal, knocked over, and perishing by exposure/hypothermia. I hate the furbags! More power to the Landlord. Come to think of it, it is very cool that they are there, that they get to exist in this modern world. What fun is anything w/o the risk?
Like I've got a say in the matter. I'm too far away to fish there anyways, and all I've got to deal with ARE the seals.
I love you too Sara.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Sometimes it's a matter of the weather, weather it's your time or not.
I used to Ab dive at pigeon pt and Ano Nuevo for hours on end, Get done with abs(limit 5) and fill an onion sack full of urchins then come in closer for a limit(50) of clams. I would tell people I dove there and they would look at me like I was a ghost!  :smt009  Did it almost every weekend in season for years.I'd rather be LUCKY than good anytime. :smt006

I hear what you are saying Mako and i've thought the same way myself about how would I rather go. I've also tried to justify it with the whole driving there is much more dangerous than being there.

In the end though if you compare the amount of time most of us spend driving versus the amount we all spend at Bean hollow etc and the amount of near misses I think the Bean ends up being much more dangerous.

Sure we have all had a near miss or two driving but we spend significantly more time driving than kayak fishing the red triangle. I think fishing down there is probably more like driving drunk at night in Baja. You still probably won't have a problem but your risks are a lot higher.

I wish you weren't right on this one Adam but I think you are. Really sucks to lose that section of coast.  :smt011

I'll still probably hit it up a couple times a year but will try not to make it my go to place like it was in the past.

I saw a research article on the red triangle which said that the migratory pattern is between this area and Hawaii. They are here between Oct and Feb. Mostly... Anyone else see it, know more?
