OK I can't resist, what are everyone's "secret" strategies?  Yeah yeah I know, if you tell it wont exactly be a "secret" will it, but honestly what would be cooler than if a ton of people end up landing some butts???

Here is one of my secret strategies:  Weighted chum bag.  I bought a cheap bag of anchovies I am going to poke a bunch of holes in, put into a weighted mesh bag, and send to the bottom.  The theory is the extra scent will bring in the predators...hopefully one of those will be a big'ole butt!

So let's share a few tips!  Maybe everyone can learn of one or two tricks they didn't know about!

LOL Salty.  I was thinking down the same path the other day when I grabbed these.  I will be pulling out all the gizmos!!

I don't have any false expectations about these things are going to work, but I just find it fun to go all in!

on similar lines... what is a good basic rig for butts?
I am fairly new to the butt scene and was planning a 3 way swival with a 3 oz weight and a leader with circle hook to a live fish.  my second rig will be a 1.5oz jig with 5"' GRUB (may need more weight possibly another 3 way)... am i on the right track for riggin for butts?
Do these weights' sound reasonable?
Also how do i land one of these damn things if i get one?
any basic advice would be appreciated...
Look forward my first event with what seems to be a great group.
See you OTW.

My SECRET stratigy:
Wake up extreamly early, Drive for ever, Convince 100 anglers to sign waiver, Paddle like crazy to take pictures, Hope to fish a little :smt003, Grill dogs like a mad man to keep hungry anglers at bay, Give away a BUTT load of prizes, Drive for an eternity again, Unload a bunch of crap, Hit the sheets, Wake up and post what a great time we had at ARW and how awsome the brotherhood of NCKA is.
And I'd do it again in a hart beat :smt002

See Ya Soon,

My secret is to have fun out there and take lots of OTW pictures of NCKAers.  If I got lucky and catch a Hali....great.  If I got skunk...I still have fun being OTW and hanging with my friends  :smt001

Butts are one of the hardest fish to net. Slippery buggers. I believe Yakhopper wants this to be a catch and release tourney so gaffs may be out.  - a picture of the fish must be submitted to win? Yakhopper - please clarify - and if I decide I want to keep a Butt will I be disqualified from the competition ?

In the game of biggest fish, if you can't enjoy routinely gettin' your ass handed to you, by great fishermen, then you don't belong in the NCKA.

Eric just doesn't want you to bring the fish to him for weigh in.  You can keep them if you want, but be sure to take a picture of it for your entry.
