my older boy sam and I met Stuart and his daughter sidney
and the legendary mooch for my first visit to
calero, the mercury and bass infested oasis of west san jose.

Wind blew. water murked.  WAF preserved by John and
Stuart because we brought home dry kids. so trip success,
but catching success was minimal for me.

john and sam caught nothing. it's really all I can do to troll with a kid and wind,
so we did that but not after wasting time tying on nightcrawlers
and a swimbait for naught. all we had was an old storm hot-n-tot to troll
and it netted nothing but sam got to feel what a lure with good action is vs
a lure that is fouled, so it was a good exercise.

we got to watch mooch fight something big that hit his mini-crank rapala.
drag was being pulled out, the fish would hole up, and finally it got off,
but the lure survived. never came to color, but clearly a big fish!

stuart and sydney landed the kayak and
tried fishing from shore, but were also denied bass love as I understand it.

float tuber/kick boats dominated the fishing with senkos and
other slow fished bottom plastics in the shallows, hooking and landing several bass. I actually
had a couple rootbeer senkos and a brass and glass carolina weight on board
but it was not really an option for me to fish in the wind and with kid.

fuzz made an appearance but it looks like the navigational, kayak wheel and
remembered wallet gods were against him today.

okay, when does the real fish catching start?  :smt017

John,
It was nice to finally meet you and your son.

Mooch and Fuzz,
Great trading stories in the lot.  The company far exceeded the fishing.

Here's to next time.  Better weather and betterin fishing.

Stuart
