have claimed another of the good ones.

Although most of you may not have met Liz some of you have had the opportunity to fish with her or to talk to her as she waited for me on shore. For the past 5 years she's shared my number 1 spot along side my son Omar but now she's heading out to the Lone Star State to be the principal at a school near Austin.

It seems like just a few days ago we were buying her first fishing license down in Mission Bay. We didn't catch anything that day or even get a bite but she was hooked.  After that day fishing has constantly been on her mind.  There have been times when she has forcefully gotten me out of bed to take her fishing.

It was her who, for my birthday, took me out for my first kayaking experience in Santa Cruz.  We launched from the wharf and paddled around what I think is called Seal Rock.

We explored quite a few places together, alot of those places have been non-fishing related but most have been.

She was with me at Chef's memorial at Mill Creek and helped me to carry my kayak over the rocks to the launch beach and she seen me scrub my first landing...

Together we fished Del Valle, McClure, Don Pedro, Stillwater (South), Lake Mendocino, Lake Tahoe, Monastery Beach, HalfMoon Bay, Fort Ross and many others.  She even fished with me on a cold and rainy night at Coyote point while some chic was getting gang-banged in a van.

A couple of years ago, while we were all at the Mansion with Mooch, she and Adam launched kayaks from a cliff in Big Sur while the rest of us dove...that was the day we thought we had lost NCKA's mascot (Mooch) while all along he was on shore sipping on Cokes.

By far though, the most memorable place we visited together was Elk. The tournaments that Sean (SBD) used to put on were good times.  During the last tournament there Liz pulled my kayak up the hill while it was filled with my dive gear as I "motivated" her.

We drove up HWY 1 to Elk a couple of weekends ago to take some pictures since it'll be the last time we hang out for a while.  On our way home we were going to drive up to Ukiah to have dinner at Oco Time, another place we learned of because of Sean (SBD), but they're closed on Sundays.

In all the years that we fished she hunted for her prized Red but even when they were being caught all around her she never caught her own...it ended up being her demon fish.  If she were SCAllen she would have been wearing one hell of a beard.  :smt003  There's no doubt she'll be back soon to resolve that issue though, she nothing if not tenacious.

So the point is that while many of you haven't met her and she hasn't posted much she has been a hard core "behind the scenes" NCKA'er since about late 2006 and so I thought I'd write this up so everyone who knows her can drop her a message if they'd like.  As of this Saturday she'll be in Austin giving them Texan's some hell.

Congratulations are in order for her new gig.  But sorry to hear that she's leaving.  She was a trooper for you, no doubt

Sorry to hear you two will be apart for awhile, but glad to hear she's taking a great opportunity.

Liz and my (now ex) GF were chillin' together at the last Elk tourny.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Austin is a nice place—best in Texas IMHO. They don't have our mountains (i.e. Trout fishing) nor our oceans (i.e. Lings, Rockfish, etc.) and they have Fire Ants and Scorpions in Austin but it's a free state and they have great Tex-Mex and money goes a lot farther down there. Good luck to her. I hope things work out for you. It could be worse—she could have moved to Iowa or Kansas.

Art, if you want the kayak you're going to have to talk to me now.

I was thinking of taking it to Vegas so we can pawn it for gas money to get back home.

Nice to meet Art too, I guess.

Sorry to hear that you are losing your friend and partner to Texas....good news is if you go visit her you guys are super close to NOLA and I got the hook ups for you over there!   :smt003

Actually one of my good buddies (I call him my Mini-me) and his wife just moved to Austin, so if she needs some cool folks to hang out with or any help when she gets there let me know and I can hook them up.

Safe travels!!
