WTF...why won't the cops follow through?  If the assigned detective won't do his job, call his boss.

I hope you get your kayak back soon!  Otherwise we may have to employ some "private contractors" to do the LEO's work.

I bet those kids will try to sell it at other places too.

I like the "pirvate contractor" thought  :smt027  I'll keep an eye out on hwy132 in Modesto.

Hopefully it's just a matter of time, and you'll get it back. Nice detective work..

Yes I tried to go to the police station in person they would not let me inside at 4pm on friday just took my name and told me the investigating officer would call me later, needless to say I have lost all hope in the cops.
So what is left I very badly want to through a rock into their window and when the landlord comes to fix it he will see my yak, but on the other hand that would be sinking to their level and I will probebly be arested.
    Private contractors hmmmmmmm
Im hopeing to get it back by the stake out method they have no car other than a black mustang and they live close so I have been watching very closely for the yak to come out of that house I know its in there!

James, do you have a clear line of site to their car or front door?

If so, I may be able to help you setup a streaming webcam or something similar.  :)

I think you got a good chance of getting that boat back now. Don't let up.

petty theft is almost always a neighbor. crime of opportunity.

I recommend being a nuisance down at the station.  don't curse,
and smile a lot but don't take no for an answer.  keep asking to speak to the next person up
and take names of anybody that does not give you the next higher up person.
do not make empty threats but take names. write them down.
If you have sombody to go with you, take them. numbers impress.
Even if they ultimately send you away, they will remember and may take action
after you leave.

regarding citizen action, well, it can work, but be careful.
kayak is precious but not worth getting shot over.
one of my brothers got stabbed once over something stupid. he's fine but it was a lesson.

my cousin is a professional bodyguard in NY city, 6'5 and over 300 and
even the biggest guys have to be real careful and they always have backup for themselves.
god made man, but colt made 'em equal as they say. so
unless you break elbows for a living like him, and have a 265lb guy watching your 300+lb
back, you could lose a lot more than a kayak.

go get 'em!

James,
I dont live that far away from you here in Oakland.  If you need help, I've done contracted recoveries.  Can give you some pointers, or get it back.  Should be easier than a repo.  Wow, didn't see this thread until today, makes me sick that the cops dont do anything.  JTF..
