I hear ya Tiny.

I felt super unprepared once I was out there....

I had a 3mm farmer john and Stohlquist Tread Dry Pants, 6mm dive booties, a spray top and a Penn rain jacket.

Felt frozen to the bone and wished I had worn my 7mm dive suit with all the rest on top to keep off the wind.

Lesson learned....I like the farmer john with the relief zipper to be able to pee on the water, but would rather be warm and piss in my suit and jump in to wash off later!

Good seeing you as always bro.

Sincerely,

Jim

I hear ya,
I had a set of thermals under sweats (nylon) and the palm dry suite.
Came in early and used all the Tides hot water by 11:30 :smt003
Now I'm looking at the Kokatat suit Ravensblack and Sailfish had on - looked comfy and they still had it on at the awards.

See Ya Soon,

I had socks and under armor under my kokatat tempest pants. Legs stayed warm but was damp when I took them off. My feet were freezing.
On top I had a NRS long sleeve thick  rash guard type shirt and my kokatat tempest jacket, stayed warm, had my dive gloves on and hands were freezing until I dumped them in the water and let them do there thing. Fished for 4 1/2 hours and couldn't take anymore. Had a ball though.

Kokatat drysuit with thermal pant and GS5 T-shirt.  A little cold but catching fish made me warm all over  :smt003

this.....

http://www.theboatpeople.com/product_info.php?products_id=331

with a double layer of REI ski thermals (top and bottom). Legs were fine. Could have used one more layer up top. I also had an extra beanie that saved the day when the first one got soaked. The only really cold part was the hands (I had gloves, but need waterproof ones).

Also these are the best socks EVER!!!! Feet were totally dry and warm and I only had these (no 2nd layer). And yes liftime. you send them in (when worn and they replace).

3 mil wetsuit, with ehem...waders, poly undershirt with polar fleece & gortex windbreaker, and the items I never go without in the cold: Yak wool hat from Nepal and my Alpaca wool socks.

I was warm, but I don't like the idea of waders.  I am currently saving for a drysuit.

Stohlquist drysuit that I picked up on eBay super cheap. Polartec pants and longsleeve, with 2 pairs of wool socks. My feet were okay for about 3 hours even after having them in the water most of the time. My hands were done after an hour or so. The relief zipper would have helped if i could feel what I was fumbling around for... :smt044

Tempest pants and goretex jacket over 3ml john. 5 or 7ml booties, thick poly socks, nylon SS rash guard, long sleeve heavy polypropylene shirt, polypro fleece top, and Atlas gloves. Hands and the balls were cold by the end but that was six hours OTW.

I would have been OK in that weather during the tourney but I accidentally left my
tempest pants and NRS jacket outside in the rain the night before. As long as I have thick socks, long johns, and a sweat pants and a hoodie, I'm good to go regardless of what the weather holds.

Kokatat tropos angler dry suit with a full layer of mysterioso. Socks, pants, and top. Over it all a hooded paddle jacket and a Marine issue boonie. The boonie sucked. Going for the Souwester from Kokatat next. I fish with my feet in the water most of the time so they were chilled a bit. My hands never got cold because my core never was. Once your core gets cold your blood goes there leaving the extremities.  I cant say enough about the tropos dry suit. I did stay in it all day and when I pulled it off to go to bed Sunday night I was dry as a bone. Excellent choice. The feeling of paying top price for goods of extreme quality made in the US is satisfying as hell.

I was pretty comfortable from 5:20 until I got back to the hotel at 2:00.  I was just getting chilled as I got to the room, and that hot shower was nice.....

I had nylon "dress" socks, and 5mil dive boots.  A NRS 3mm wetsuit, with gortex rain paints over them.  A rash guard short sleeve shirt, a ratty old poly fleece jacket, and NRS rain jacket with hood.  A knit cap on my head, and fingerless neoprene gloves.  And a PFD.

The rain pants made a huge difference, as my wetsuit stayed dry.  My new boots are much taller than my old ones, and did a great job at keeping my feet dry until the swell picked up, but even with water they were warm.  I do think the thin under socks helped insulate my feet a little more.  The biggest help was the jacket with the huge hood.  It kept my head and face insulated and dry.  i do want to get a pair of dedicated kayak rain pants to save wear on my hunting pants.  I think a cheap set of Walmart nylon rain pants would work well and be easy to clean.

I do admit those dry suits looked toasty!

Ohhhhh...now you tell me, just after I got my farmer john. WTH bring it on !, I was soaked to the bone due to my faulty rain jacket but managed 5-1/2 hours. The fishing was too good to call it quits and be labeled as a pussy. :smt044
