No, it's not legal to use an ab iron on mussles. 

Speaking of which, there are lots of mussels at fort ross.  They're easy to get off the rock by hand, just twist them around and around until their beard hairs break.  The limit is 10lbs.  From may 1 to oct 31 the harvesting of mussels is closed because they may cause paralytic shellfish poisoning.  So if you want mussels, now's the time.
