Had some PTO saved up from work that needed to be used. Friday looked like a great day with small swings on the tides. Got to the launch site at 7 a.m,  and hooked up into InsandeDuane, Sharky and otter on the water. Shoot the sht, bummed some of Insaneduanes "Famous" Smelt and the headed to the flag pole. (Thanks bro)

First bite at 9:45 a.m. ish.. the pole loads up big time, but he doesn't run. A couple of head shakes and he comes up like a wet carpet. It gets to the top and makes a couple darts for the bottom.  Gaffed it on the boat and beat it 3 times over the head. He manages to Jump the gaff, breaks my line and darts to the bottom. HUGE OHHHHHHH F*Y&F* SHTTTTT!! can be heard from ARW to Oakland. (Lesson Learned: Clip the halibut in before beating it with a bat)

Redeemed myself the rest of the day with two more bites that I landed. Almost limit with some nice fish...Almost... either way, had a great time with the guys on the water. Bummed to hear that everyone else skunked.  L.A.

Nice fishing with you Keith. Dude you were on fire out there! I think you might have stolen some of Duane or Chucke's mojo.  :smt002

Nice to see some good fish moving in. It's only gonna get better from here on out.

How did you catch those perfect sized smelts?! All I ever see are too big for bait. Really nice catch.

@ChuckE, i'm just a small lucky grasshopper. BTW: no cheating with the hobie sails for the tournament!  :smt005 No halibut is safe from those Hobie adventure island. If "Rudy-Halibu77" shows up at the derby, i'm not even going to unpack my gear, i'm just going straight home. :smt010

@Otter: The smaller smelt you gave me landed the last butt. Thanks bro!

@Eric: I netted the last butt, because i screwed up on my first one. The treble was barely hooking the fin on #3 so i didn't want to take any chances.

*I was happy to almost get limits but felt bad cause Duane and Sharky didn't get a bite. Bitter sweet day*

A Hobie AI is no guarantee of more fish.  You proved it.  There were at least 3 Hobie AI's out that same day.  You outfished them all.
